£4M for one decent performance against Scunthorpe?

    Find that hard to believe.

Must be a better target for £4M out there?

I must admit, I enjoyed his cameos for us a couple of seasons ago but he obviously wasn't considered good enough for the Premiership by PL or by Liverpool. Still, he was still quite young so might have improved/got more physically robust since then.

£4 mill does seem a lot though - which club is he with at the moment?

Paul Taylor is a 'freelance journalist' with 30 tweets, none of which have yet been accurate.

Pacheco only has a year on his contract, and is not necessarily good enough to improve our team

Would be competition for Hoops ? Would have more time in the prem on the ball but £4m does sound a bit expensive.

Sadly I think Dani falls into the same category as Kei Kamara, both loved their time at NCFC, both were popular with players and fans alike, both have a permanent smile on their faces, and neither are quite good enough for the EPL

Seriously hope this isn't true. I thought he was told he could leave Liverpool on a free this summer. If that was the case then I wouldn't object too much to him signing, but £4m is a ludicrous sum of him.

I'd still be intrigued to know A) why we signed Jacob Butterfield, and b) how he fits into the club's plans for the future.

I mean Ryan Bennett was ostensibly cover when we signed him, but he's done a decent job and covered well for Turner when needed towards the end of the season.

I thought - maybe mistakenly, that JB was signed as an understudy to Wes. So why, when Wes hasn't featured, has Butterfield not even had a Becchio-esque cameo?

Apparently Pacheco is out of contract next month so we wont be paying squat for him if he did come.

Also, he would be a Championship player taking up some of our precious wage bill so...i doubt it will happen (fingers xd!)

I hope not, he was alright for his cameo in the champ but for 4mil we could get diego capel. This is another rumour that can be shoved at the bottom of the pile.

My theory might be a little cynical, but here goes.

Butterfield was out of contract, he's young, and clearly has some potential. Barnsley aren't a high-flying championship club, so his wages were probably at the low end of the championship scale. I think we used our Prem status to lure him, knowing that the compensation we had to pay Barnsley would be derisory. Once we signed him, we could assess whether we felt he had the potential to be a squad player in the Prem, and if/when we decide he isn't good enough, we can sell him on and probably still make a profit on him.

I like the fact he still follow our progress and tweets nice things about us, but like others have said, 4 million is too much, money that could be spent on better quality. Wouldn't say no for a free transfer though if he's contract is running out.

Not cynical at all - I suspect a very accurate perception on the situation.

But Ewan Chester was here, I doubt this is true, just saying there is a link.

He can play as a striker, just off a lone forward or on the wing, so he'd be a decent squad player, but not at £4million.
