Great post on the nufc board, created by ACS. If you had a time machine and could spirit two ex SAFC players into the present to help our fortunes next year who would you pick and why? I will go with the obvious. Super Kev and Quinny. Although Claudio Reyna comes very close.
Hope you don't mind me joining in as I watched a bit of your lot as a lad. I'd pick Gabbers and Phillips. Gabbers had pace, power and precision and is the nearest I've seen to a Shearer in an SAFC shirt.
This is my answer also. I ****ing loved Marco, for me he was better than Maradona, obviously aged 7-12 you don't realise that terrorising Newport in Division 3 isn't the same as destroying (then) West Germany in a World Cup final. Remember how Gabbers & Gates combined? Times that by 10 for Phillips, with his movement and first touch.
If its people we have seen play in the flesh. Gabbiandini and SKP. if its anyone Len Shackleton and Charlie Hurley (with Brian Clough a very close 3rd before his injury)
Hutch is a massive shout actually mate, the hole he left in the team was what killed the Reidy years. Such an influence that lad, top player.
We need goals and we need a creative midfieler, so SKP up front and mebbe Gary Rowell? I even gave Stefan Schwartz a think anarl...
Based on individual ability alone - Charlie Hurley & Jim Baxter - though I fear Slim Jim's outside activities may not have suited PDC. Nevertheless, they are amongst the two most influential players I can recall who could do the business week after week, home or away and regardless of the opposition.
We are crying out for some silky skills in the middle so its got to be Sean Thornton and Jeff Whitley for me :-/ On a serious note, Nicky Summerbee and Kevin Phillips.
