There is quite a significant difference between the current situation and the Irish Republican one.The Irish had a "war aim" in their case Irish independence from British rule, something that it was possible to put a case for, although of course most disagreed with it.
The muslims or islamists whatever you wish to call them have no such aims.In fact it is only a matter of time whenever they get their own way that they start internecine warfare between one sect and another. The whole religion is grounded in a medieval mindset that promotes violence, especially against females and homosexuals.

I stand shoulder to shoulder with Redruth.
I also have family in the forces out in Afganistan and I fear for them every day!

    Winston Churchill 1899.
"Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world."

    CHURCHILL ON ISLAM

Unbelievable, but the speech below was written in 1899... (check Wikipedia - The River War).

The attached short speech from Winston Churchill, was delivered by him in 1899 when he was a young soldier and journalist. It probably sets out the current views of many, but expresses in the wonderful Churchillian turn of phrase and use of the English language, of which he was a past master. Sir Winston Churchill was, without doubt, one of the greatest men of the late 19th and 20th centuries.

He was a brave young soldier, a brilliant journalist, an extraordinary politician and statesman, a great war leader and British Prime Minister, to whom the Western world must be forever in his debt. He was a prophet in his own time. He died on 24th January 1965, at the grand old age of 90 and, after a lifetime of service to his country, was accorded a State funeral.

    HERE IS THE SPEECH:

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome ..."

Sir Winston Churchill; (Source: The River War, first edition, Vol II, pages 248-250 London).

    Churchill saw it coming......

Guilty of copy and paste on this one.

Stick it up your arse mate.

If you think judging people by their religion is ok you are nothing more than a fascist, like Hittler.<doh>

Whilst being smart enough to broadcast it on a public forum.

It's not persecution, its preservation. These two ****ers wanted to be caught and shot. They wanted to be martyrs. This is a home. It's England's green and pleasant land with a monarchy and democracy of a sort. We are not governed by a God but by the rule of law. We have a choice at the ballot box however muddled that ends up. And that is a choice.
These people do not want you to have a choice. And the pathetic Muslim council will not offer anything but platitudes and will be consumed eventually.
And while they are it, they can ship out any of those ****ers who stood their filming it rather going to the poor little buggers help. I want to scream at the pathetic, wimpy, cushy attitude of people in this country who would appease and nurture with their middle class latter Pilates fcukin lifestyles!

I know a bloke who is kind of like a foster child with my family (Except he is too old to be - he is an adult, don't know what the word is) who is in Afghanistan too. I feel a little ill, that what seems to be the case is that this guy was targeted because he was a soldier who are only doing their job and are only in Afghanistan because of the September 11th attacks instigated by Islamic extremists in the first place!

To be honest on the majority of issues I would be far to the right of Redruth. Here I'm just defending good people I know personally against persecution they don't deserve.

I disagree strongly with that.It is a conflict between free speech and censorship.Redruth expresses himself somewhat forcefully but it is a point of view that is held by a significant proportion of the British people.I am politically on the left but I cannot deny the fact that institutions like the BBC try to push a pro Islam line and I can see how that grates on those who can see their agenda. There is a great deal of sense in the argument that if they don't like it here they can go to an Islamic country.I would even be happy to see our government pay their fare,As I say,I am on the left.

I know while the whole thing is vivid in peoples minds and clearly a terrible act people will make rash statements. I hope some of you lot will look back and see what you are saying is ridiculous. Firstly we dont know all the facts, so lots of what is said is no more than speculation. Secondly saying everyone from one religion is a terrorist and should be deported is stupid. As has been said most will be as appalled as any of us. Religion has been used for centuries as an excuse to commit atrocities and not just Muslims.

Of course something has to be done to help prevent events like this in the future, but taking extreme views such as this has the potential to make the situation even worse. It is a tiny minority giving them a bad name. Lets face it as a group they do a lot of good for the country as well. And arguably over history have we behaved any better?

Terrible situation but required more sensible and thought out views.

All religion is fundamentally flawed in my opinion. You can practice what you like so long as you don't break law or oppress people with your views. It's not right to tar everyone with the same brush though. I feel absolutely gutted for the lad who was murdered at the moment and like the rest of the country I'm generally angry that such a despicable and callous crime happens on our streets, but let's keep calm and wait for the facts to emerge.
