Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini has given his clearest indication yet that he could be ready to stay at St James' Park.

Coloccini looked to be heading for the exit door in January after telling club officials that he wanted to return to his homeland but boss Alan Pardew convinced him to stay. The defender has also struggled on the injury front but returned to play in the final three games of the season as Newcastle fought off the threat of relegation. It was thought Coloccini would again ask to leave in the summer, but by the way he is talking, it looks as though he is planning to stay on Tyneside for at least another season. "It was disappointing to lose, of course, but they were fighting for the Champions League while we didn't play for anything, just trying to get three points for the fans," Coloccini told the club's official website after the Arsenal game. "But I think Sunday was a very good game because maybe we showed that we can fight against the big teams. We have to prepare for next season and play like we did on Sunday: to be compact and aggressive. "I think next season, if the team play like that, we can be higher in the table."

Where's the indication though? I didn't click the link did I miss anything?

I don't see any indication of him saying he wants to stay to be honest. Even if he did, the transfer market is such that a player can say he's staying/ no way he's leaving, and still be leaving before the window closes.

He's saying we and not they. "I think next season, if the team play like that, we can be higher in the table."

Would love it if he did stay.

    This.

He's clearly at least thinking in the 'we' rather than the 'them'.
I'd cartwheel down to the quayside if he stays.

Be unbelievable if he would stay but I don't really take the "we" as much of a hint he might. Its a nice thought but you have to remember he is talking in the present tense in that he is still captain and still loves the club and its fans regardless.

It would be the best signing we make this summer though if he did!

It would certainly be about as big a boost as any key new signing. Probably bigger.

I will give a rebirth of the notion of a tashgasm if Coloccini were to stay.

The Tyne has been closed to all shipping as a massive stream of grey slime envelopes the Quayside and causes a hazard.

I hope he stays, but the trying for the fans; they were fighting for the champions league spiel needs to go. You win cups for the fans.
win games for yourself and your pay packet. It's an inferiority complex. like they're better so it's no biggie that they won.
Them lads who won the scottish cup should be down telling everyone what is was like, how they felt.

Ideal situation : Colo stays, Jonas goes

What is much more likely to happen : Colo goes, Jonas stays
