Keyboard player with the Doors has joined Jim Morrison. Brilliant at his craft and has given me unrivalled joy over the years. RIP
He is an absolute legend, co-founder of the greatest rock band of all-time. Passed away at 12 o'clock to day aged 74 following a long struggle with bowel duct cancer for those who are interested. Tragic loss, always wanted to go see Manzarek-Kreiger play, would be the closest I could get to watching the Doors. RIP Ray.
Yes - one of the greatest compliments I have ever had as a piano man was when a guy at a gig said that my keyboard playing reminded him of Ray Manzarek.
The man was a genius, though when interviewed, he did say 'man' a little too often. It's a sad loss to music, I doubt there was another man who had such an effect on the worldwide sales of Vox and Gibson combo keyboards). RIP Ray. please log in to view this image
I know and once interviewed a musician called Howard Werth who used to be in a band called Audience during the 60s and early 70s. He was approached by Manzarek to join the Doors after Morrison's death. It didn't work out, but years later (I think in the 90s) when Manzarek wanted to tour as the Doors once again, he got back in touch with Werth. He told Werth that the whole deal might not happen due to legal problems, litigation and rights issues from Morrison's estate. Werth said to him 'ah, I see' and sung 'Come On Baby Fight My Lawyer' at which point Manzarek put the phone down and wouldn't speak to Howard again! No sense of humour but a great musician, part of the soundtrack of the 1960s and a real influence on many musicians and bands. RIP!
R.I.P. Ray. Thanks for the sounds. Say hi to Jim for us all. Ray was on a par with the late great Jon Lord(Deep Purple) imo.
Not been a good week for the music business re. deaths. First Ray and now news that ex. Spiders from Mars, Uriah Heep. Wishbone Ash and Cybernauts bass player has passed away. R.I.P. Trevor and say hi to Mick Ronson. O/T Hi-De-Hi comic star Paul Shane who played camp comic Ted Bovis has also passed away. Not the first from that series either. R.I.P. Paul. Hi-Di-Hi Ho - De -Ho.

The Doors and Iron Butterfly were 2 of the best bands to coem out of the USA in the 60/70's imo. Respect to actor Val Kilmer who played Jim Morrison. Great performance in that film.
Have agree with you TFT about those two groups. Remember watching Easy Rider in a cinema in Piccadilly Circus. After the credits had finished In a Gadda Da Vida was played. The only time I've stayed in a cinema for some 17 minutes after a film had finished. Bought the album next day. Good old days.
Yeah, it's really sad man (sorry OLM) seeing the musical figures of our youth pass on. Watched a really cool doco on the Foxtel "Studio" channel last night that was obviously played as a tribute. They went through all the various Doors albums and finished with LA Woman which they quite properly awarded 5 Stars. Also heard on the radio an interview with Manzarek from a few years ago where he recounted how he first met Morrison on a beach one day, they got talking and the rest is history.
