If you had £17m to spend on a striker for the Toon and had your choice of three, all at the same price of £17m who would you pick between:

    Carroll
    Benteke
    Lukaku

I'd personally go for Lukaku as he's only 20 and has all the tools in the box to be world class.

Unfortunately Mandy doesn't have as many tools in his striking box.

Lukaku would also, at his age grow in ability and of course value.

Of those three, Lukaku. But I wouldn't, I'd go with PEA for 10 and have 7 to spend on a quality midfielder, and a plan to anywhere in the world, one way, for Jonas

Lukaku for me, he's quick, strong, good in the air and on the ground and he's left footed. I always like to have a lefty around to offer something different, loved Oba for that very reason.

Don't think we'd pick anybody up for £17.

Think the title needs to be changed to £17m.

To be fair, Ashley forking out £17 is considerably more likely than him spending £17m.

Hell, he couldn't even get ACS for £17.

Benteke would be a good (slightly cheaper, maybe) option, but I'd be worried about 2nd season syndrome that's hit Cisse and Jelavic

Lukaku - class act and the next Drogba. He'll be going nowhere of course once Jose arrives, fits perfectly with his style.

<yikes> Were you making a mint out of collecting the balls he fired into the stands or something?

Another one we got fleeced on. Could score a goal out of nothing but was lazy, could not link up at all and was generally poor. What was he 1 in 3? And he couldn't wait to get out (which was no bad thing).

Now setting the world alight for Seattle Sounders aged 42, I mean 28.

Carroll as, realistically, he's the only one who would come and he'd make a massive difference.

Hopefully Joey Barton comes back too just for the laugh.

    Carroll.

Carroll's ability on the ground is spectacularly under rated. Some of his skills on the ground and his finishes have been fantastic.

Lukaku is better on the ground and quicker, but Carroll's aerial threat is lethal if you know how to utilize it, and I think with Carroll we could play a variety of different styles.

He's not **** on the ground, he could play a part in a good piece of build up play. If we want to play it on the ground, we could do so. But we could also switch to a more direct style if we need to.

I don't see Lukaku and Cisse linking up if I'm being honest, I do see Carroll and Cisse linking up. Plus Carroll will give his all for the team no matter what, and I'd love to see him back here.

I dont think you'd get either benteke or lukaku for 17m. Aston Villa have said that it'll take 25m to get Benteke off of them and they have no reason to sell him really and Chelsea know what sort of talent they have with Lukaku and for me is easily the best of the three and the youngest. Although Liverpool are starting to look desperate to offload Carroll, think it would make sense for him to go back to you guys.

On a side note, Cisse has looked woeful in parts for you this season. I've been quite shocked at how badly he has played whenever I've seen you guys on TV

I'm hoping that Cisse get's back to his old self next season after a good summer break.
His confidence has been shot to pieces this year.

Robert was lazy and look how much he was loved, same goes for Berbatov and even Ronaldo. Some players are lazy. I just loved him because no matter how anonymous he was as long as you were only a goal down you knew you were still in the game. Our 3-2 away win at Spurs where he started the comeback with possibly the best goal I've seen from a toon player is one of my favourite ever matches.

    This...

It's being reported that Liverpool will accept £12m from West Ham United for Carroll - we simply have to out-bid them <ok>

Even if we pay £20m, we're still laughing all the way to the bank.

    Get him home! <grr>

Do you think its fair to say that if the board fail in bringing Carroll back to the club, then we pretty much know what the future holds?

The fact there haven't been any recent 'rumours' linking us with Carroll, suggests that Ashley & Llambias will not even try. <doh>
