Hi guys, been reading for a while but noticed no one had done a good overall of the squad and who would make the PL. ill give you my view (Feel free to disagree), but go easy on me its only an opinion . Dave Stockdale- Cant fault his commitment and passion, decent shot stopper, but my heart packed in a few times on corners and crosses, won us a few points but for a rumoured £3 million has he had any PL experience apart from warming the bench? LET GO Eldin Jakupovic- Need i say anymore? worst keeper i have seen in a city shirt. LET GO Liam Rosenior- Gives it his all, fast, solid, and always dependable, needs to improve his crossing and distribution but a good squad player. deserves his new deal. KEEP Elmohamady- Player of the year for a reason, form dipped in the last few games but his delivery was deadly. try and get him back. KEEP James Chester- Not his best season but ever dependable, one on one tackling is brilliant, key roll to play. KEEP Jack Hobbs- i worry about hobbs, will struggle against the pacier strikers, but a good leader and threat in the air. He may be a Squad player. KEEP Paul Mcshane- another i worry about, got hero status, but is championship his level? nevertheless he deserved his deal. KEEP Faye- Not going to play much, i think championship is his level as he showed with us and west ham, i would have let him go and freed some wage budget. LET GO Alex Bruce- Passion to do well and would put his body on the line, but i would let him go, cant see him playing at all next season. LET GO Joe Dudgeon- didnt see much of him this season but what we did he is quick and isnt afraid going forward. KEEP Corry Evans- puts his foot in and breaks up play, distribution needs to improve, good squad player. KEEP David Meyler- breaks up play, good solid player that gets the job done. KEEP Tom Cairney- Where has this guy gone, disapeared until the final day celebrations (barring a couple of cameo roles). LET GO Rob Koren- we carried him for the last 12 or so games, has a moment of magic in him but really needs to do more, cant see him been more then a squad player. KEEP Ahmed Fathi- can tell theres a player there but wasnt given the time, good performance at wolves, but that should be it from him. LET GO Stephen Quinn- gives his all and pops up with a few goals, deserves his chance in the PL. KEEP Sone Aluko- Going to be our star player. KEEP Cameron stewart- doesnt seem to be interested, had his chance and didnt take it, went on loan and came back worse, time to let go. LET GO Robbie Brady- another potential star player, pace to burn and now tracks back, needs to improve on free kicks to be our main taker. KEEP George Boyd- another who's form dipped towards the end, but popped up with vital goals. couldnt have done it without him. KEEP Gedo- i would have him back and think he would be better in the PL, finds space and is always were you need him, on a plus side he can find the target. KEEP Matt Fryatt- has been our only decent option for the past couple of seasons but i worry for him, dont think he would make the step up and would accept a decent offer for him to enable us to look for a new one. UNDECIDED Nick Proschwitz- i would let him go, to me he struggled this season although had a decent game against cardiff, for bruce to pay that much and not play him though must mean something. LET GO. anyways that is my little evaluation of the current squad, theres some decent players we could get in to replace them, i know alot of people want the best from the championship like rhodes etc. i think we should raid the top teams youth and reserve teams, Raheem sterling could be an option for a loan, or even the **** twin from man utd (fabio) he cant be that much different from his bro. but rio miyaichi, who had a spell at wigan, macheda must want a loan in the PL to prove he is good enough, chalobah from chelsea ( on loan at Watford) should be what we are looking for. At least if you get them young and they turn out good you get that little bit of loyalty for doing it, and the potential to sell them for big money.
Can I ask why Jakupovic is the worst keeper that's worn a City shirt? He kept 3 consecutive clean sheets in December and contributed largely to Bruce winning the manager of the month award. He made one mistake against Sheffield Wednesday and apparently that was enough to convince everybody that he was ****e. It was a bad error, but it's always highlighted more because he's a keeper. Eleven underperforming players lost us that game, not just Jakupovic. He'll be third choice next year, but can you honestly say he's the worst keeper we've ever had? Is he worse than Gulacsi, Warner, Carson (didn't play but boy did he look **** in the reserves) or Leite? As for Proschwitz, Bruce won't get rid this season; partly because of the fee we paid for him and partly because he's a decent player and offers us a different option. Generally agree with the others though (maybe not Faye) but the players you've listed on your transfer wish list are all very young and inexperienced; Chalobah hasn't played in the PL and the money Chelsea would want would be stupid after his season at Watford, to name one. Hopefully we'll get some older, experienced heads in (which is why I'd keep Faye in the team) who can calm us down and stop the younger lads getting over excited.
Welcome to the forum, Stockdale, Elmohamady, Gedo, Fathi and Boyd are all loan signings so its a case of purchase rather than keep (or let go), and McShane, Rosenior and Faye have all had deals in the last week or so. We've gotten rid of a lot of dead wood since getting promoted. Chester, Brady, Meyler, Evans and Aluko are the nucleus of next season's team for me, plus Elmo and Boyd if they come back.
That is a fair point on eldin, however I was more highlighting on the goalkeeping situation as a whole and that I wouldn't like him as first choice next season. To me he never looked comfortable and he never had any stand out attributes. Average shot stopper, average distribution and had a few errors in him, I seem to remember one in the away game before Sheffield wed. But I do agree for those games it was the overall performance of the team. I was saying let go because I wouldn't like him as a second choice if our first gets injured, and third choice we have oxley, I think we need two new keepers. Faye would be good to have in the dressing room, but is he really going to play? Or get onto the bench? Chalobah was probably a bad example, but if you look at Swansea and Southampton they have brought up young talent and sold for big money, I think it would be good for us to do that because from the big money paid they have bought players in which have enabled to be we're they are, I don't think our academy is able to do that so buying them young is the only way.
nah i'd happily shoot EJ , he faked injury to hide his embarrassment - nothing to do with the goal he conceded
Stockdale was called up to the England squad by Capello, so maybe he isn't that bad. Think City fans will only be happy if we have the likes of Buffon or Casillas in goal, even then woe betide them if they come and don't claim the ball.
We need to have a proper academy, with a PL training ground and gym. Plus a pitch that is consistent. The academy for young player development and to balance the transfer costs. The training ground to improve our current squad and to attract players to the club. The pitch to allow our squad new and old to play a free flowing passing game. As for who we keep, we need to stick with Stockdale if possible he will cost us nothing in the long term. I personally would keep all three Eygptians. Cam Stewart needs to stay with us and build back his confidence.
Tommy the jak made 3 mistakes against te wendies if memory serves me right then ****ed up and threw away the very next game. And due to the fact you just called Tony Warner **** makes me wonder if you even know what onions are.
I hope we get Gedo back but wonder if he'll recover in Cairo & play for Al Ahly instead, I saw enough of him to convince me that a fit Gedo is PL quality.. wheras Proschwitz is still a qustion mark..
Evans can't pass and has no touch. Cairney retains possession and is technically gifted, also his tackling has improved. In a league where you get more space Cairney is obviously a far better option.
Goalkeepers New, new (experienced), Jakupovic CB's Chester, New, Hobbs, Faye, McShane Full back Rosenior, Dudgeon, New Holding midfielder's Meyler, New, Evans, Cairney Attacking midfielder's Aluko, Brady, New, Quinn, Boyd Strikers New, New, Proschwitz Out Oxley (loan), Bruce, Fryatt, Koren (50/50), Stewart IN Goalkeeper, experienced goalkeeper, Centre back, Full back, Defensive midfielder, Attacking midfielder, Striker, Striker
Don't think people need to worry about Hobbs, Fair enough he's not the best but He's barely put a foot wrong all season, Can definately see him making the step up. Still think we need a decent, combative Central Midfielder, prefferably one with some PL experience. and Possibly a left winger incase Brady ends up missing games. Definately need a new striker, I think Fryatt could do ok but I can't see either him or Proschwitz setting the PL on fire. But the position we are most desperate for is a keeper. Stockdale did OK but certainly isn't a £3-4 million keeper. I think we'd be better off going for Mannone or Schmeichel if we can get them for less. Or go for someone like Given although that is still not a long term solution to a problem that we've had for the last 2 or 3 years.
