Well Richardson is out. Pretty much the norm for him, having only appeared 13 times this season and only completing 1 full game. So I suppose Riise will be given the LB spot. For the rest I'm really not sure that Jol will make any changes. I think he should. Arguably Urby who won't be with us next year has been all over the place in recent games and Kara who according to rumours also won't be with us next season seems to have lost confidence, should be 'rested'. And I'm not sure what Damien Duff is contributing at the moment. Given Hugo's display against Reading it's strange that he didn't even come off the bench last Sunday. And surely Kaca deserves to start Point are still important but isn't there a case for bringing in youngsters, including Kerim Frei (where's he disappeared to in Jol's thinking?). But he won't, so the likely starting line-up is - ................Schwarzer............. ..Riether..Senderos..Hangeland..Riise.. .............Kara....Ehoh..... ..Duff...........Ruiz..............Urby.. ...............Berba..........
Think Jol won't change too much from his strongest team that he can put out, He'll want to get some points. May be Hughes will still play instead of Senderos. Kaca might start instead of Urby.
It makes sense financially to pick the strongest team in the hope of rising a few league places (at £500k a place, or something like that) with a win. Other than that, if Jol hasn't made up his mind on whether to make any of the loans/short-term signings permanent, it's a good opportunity to give them a last chance to play themselves in (or out) of the squad. I'd like to see some youngsters, but like others say I'm not expecting to.
Someone I'd like to bring up is Richardson, I know he has probably performed better than Riise this season (who hasn't?) but as 58 said, has only completed ONE game for us. For me, I'd like Jol to bring in a new starting LB and bring Briggs back as back up, with Richardson and Riise leaving.
If Briggs isn't good enough to have been fighting for a first team place at left back this season, we want someone better for a back up. I agree we should sign a new left back, but I suspect we should let Briggs go as well. Dan Burn has played left back some (most?) of his time at Yeovil. I'm not suggesting that's where he should play for us, but he could certainly do a job as back up. If Briggs isn't going to make it as a first choice we us - and it looks increasingly like he won't - let's give the gametime and experience to Burn, someone who is more likely to do so.
My apologies Captain, I was under the impression that Briggs was doing well at a team at the top end of the Championship? We don't need our back up players to be world class, just capable of coming in if needed and doing a half decent job, which Richardson would be able to do if he weren't injured all of the time.
The ref on Sunday is Mr Lee Mason please log in to view this image Not our favourite ref but not the worst. The only League game heâs refâd us this season was the 2-1 over Newcastle, which is the only game so far when he hasnât issued a yellow card. And he does like his cards, having dished out 104 yellows and 3 reds in his 29 games this season to date. Chris Baird probably got it right when the FA charged him for giving Mr Mason the âv-sign' after booking him in the Liverpool match almost exactly two years ago today. PS Swansea havenât been awarded a penalty this season, so far!
And apologies if I've got it wrong, Bandit. I got the impression Briggs was on the fringes at Watford, making appearances coming on as a sub rather than starting regularly. I don't think he set the world alight on his previous loan spells elsewhere, did he?
Not much to play for, for both teams, and both of us have had a bad run of games, but with us having the home advantage, and Laudrup targetting an 8th place finish, I think we'll edge it tomorrow, and Michu's back on form, anyway enjoy the game, and those that are travelling, safe journey!.........
And Kaca hits the post. We have to find a way to get the best from the understanding between Kaca and Berba next year.
Agreed. Kaca and Dejagah have to be our starting wingers next season. Could Kaca's partnership with Berbatov spell the end for Ruiz?
A good thought! Now Fulham, let's keep that lead (Would mean 19 points on-the-road). C O Y W !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How Swansea aren't level is a mystery. Enoh and Frimpong just can't keep hold of the ball. EDIT: In fact, this game is really the reverse of our previous meeting at Christmas. This time Swansea are playing all the football, yet we are ahead. Unfortunately we didn't get the second early on before the tide turned, so Swansea are still in it.
Sounds like the usual problem in central midfield. Glad Kara is on - Hopefiully, he'll plug the middle a bit. C O Y W !!!!
2-0, Berbatov. Great run by Berba; horrendous from Swansea though. EDIT: Ah, a touch from Kaca there and it'd be 3-0...
