Adebayor has been lackasadical all year. he has simply not looked interested, bar the last 3 games maybe. ultimately, spurs really can't patronize Arsenal fans by saying Arsenal have no chance of winning the CL. maybe thats true, but Spurs did not have a chance either. its still better to be in it than out of it.
yes, but you still want to be in it. if you didn't, you wouldnt go crazy over the prospect. ultimately though, i feel you blew it.
I think we've pretty much all agreed with that. As RS says though - it is obviously better to be in it than out of it though so I am still very disappointed.
The annoying thing with Levy is that he is so close. He has worked wonders on a shoe string but it shouldn't be a shoe string the money we all pay.
i have to say, spurs have the look of a very good side. provided Bale hangs around, they will be a team, to threaten for CL spots and crack it sooner rather than later. AB seems to know what he's doing. from my point of view, I hope Arsenal now kick on and become Title challengers as opposed to CL qualifiers, but it reamins to be seen
Of course it would be nice to go to the party. I had little expectations of us getting there so my disappointment is maybe less so. My concern is with Levy/Lewis combo who tie our hands for the first weeks of the season and surrender vital points year on.
This - you can't do what we did over Summer and January and then expect a good end-of-season result. Levy and Spurs are at a critical tipping point now I think with Bale, the stadium and the club's rising ambitions. If Levy does it wrong, it could go horribly wrong.
It's what I've said for years. Spurs not getting top 4 this season has nothing to do with luck, referees etc the problem is with Levy which has led to bad starts and Spurs dropping points. Even with he 13 point gap last season if Spurs had not started so badly and Levy handled the Modric thing better you'd have made top 4. Same this season. Levy has managed to weaken the squad whilst lowering fans expectation. I'm reluctant to predict anything next season but I'd bet if Levy sorts all transfers and off the pitch drama before the season starts you will do a lot better. There's no excuse for surrendering the 13 point and 7 point gaps for which Redknapp/AVB have to take some responsibility for. In the latter it was more to do with tactics and trying to showcase for the England, in the case of the former it was lack of personnel available due to injuries and persistence with the high line.
a new driector might not, but a new striker and some more creativity might have! and on a shoestring we're always very likely to miss out when we're battling against millions and millions. what's so annoying is that we didn't need much, it as so obvious and nothing was done about it. we could have missed our chance now and it could be even tougher going forward. - Liverpool will be stronger, city will spend fortunes, united will be strong, Chelsea could be title contenders if mourinho is in charge and Arsenal will push on now, IMO. things have to change or we need to give up on this top 4 expectation.
I'd have said with some strengthening, you would have been in with a shout of challenging for the title. Jose going back to Chelsea however, means all bets are off I'm afraid. I just don't think AW has another one in him.
This is Spurs highest points total in a season since gaining 77 points in a 42 game season in 1984/5. But this season's points per game ratio is higher. In terms of overall results, this season is Spurs' best since finishing 3rd in 1966/7 with 24 wins, 8 draws and 10 defeats in a 42 game season. Glass half full, I think.
Well, not the ending we would have hoped, but at least on the day the boys did all they could. So, congratulations to Arsenal for putting in a fantastic run to nick the place by a point! No sour grapes, as we can look back at times in the season when we should have done better - and equally times when we got more than we deserved on the day. However, we will never know what the impact of an earlier goal might have had in the NE. Marriners decision making was appalling today, with the Penalty/booking the bottom of a very deep pit he dug for himself. You would hope with the benefit of hindsight and seeing the video, he would be quick to publicly retract the decision, but you just know that won't happen. Otherwise, it was a generally frustrating day, with some really good performances by some, notably Verts, Lloris and Ade. Also Parker had his best game of the season. AVB's insistence on keeping Huddlestone on the pitch however was baffling. But in the end it mattered not.... As for next year, like the rest of you I am praying that we get any business done in good time to enable AVB and the coaching team the best chance to get the side settled for Day 1 2013/14. Personally, I think that Bale will stay - but also hope that we retain both Ade and BAE, just get some names in around them. I won't lose sleep if Dempsey goes, even with his occasional goal he has failed to inspire. Dembele must push on and become the player we all believe him capable of being and with Sandro and Kaboul back a lot of questions will be answered. The trouble is, that the battle for a CL place next year will probably move up yet another gear: 74 or 75 points anyone??? And with new management and cash flowing at all 4 clubs above us this year, even maintaining this level of achievement may prove impossible. But heh, no-one ever said supporting Spurs was a walk in the park!!! Thanks to all posters, but especially our Mods. Have a great summer lads and see you in July - or maybe sooner when the rumours start surfacing! Cheers and COYS!!!
Quite funny on the Arsenal board - they don't understand our reaction to finishing 5th. Cool logic is confusing the hell out of them - they can't handle that we're not all sobbing into our pillows.
"they can't handle that we're not all sobbing into our pillows" Speak for yourself. For me, I am we'll gutted and will be for some considerable time. To finish 5h after having a 7 point lead over Arsenal not so long ago, is not good enough. I don't give a monkeys about our points total, that's a cop out. Progress is judged by finishing positions and to go from 4th to 5th is regression in my opinion.
As soon we got AVB then sold Modric and Van der Vaart without adequately replacing them I dropped my expectations from 4th to hopefully 5th. The Spurs fanbase was 50/50 on AVB when we joined - opposition fans and the media were waiting for him to slip up so that they could say 'I told you so', Levy never supported him in the transfer market, and we replaced Modric and Van der Vaart with Dembele and Dempsey - you still expected 4th? Really? Edit - don't get me wrong, I am very disappointed - I expected this outcome though so I've had time to adjust my mind to it.
Three things needed for next season Impartial refs, Levy not being a cheapskate and the media not trying to tap up our players to maintain the status quo
Arsenal did take 26 points from their last 10 games after the NLD, so they won the CL place rather than Spurs throwing it away. Spurs have been very consistent indeed in getting just above or below 70 points for the past few seasons. In all of them, bar this season, 72 would have been plenty enough for a CL place. This year is exceptional and explained by Arsenal's late surge of form alone. Small margins nonetheless.
Point taken about small margins. However, we finished one point behind Arsenal last season, and agin this, so no progress there. We finished 5 points ahead of Chelsea least year and his season they have finished 3 ahead of us. We finished 13 ahead of Everton and this season only 9. We were ahead of Liverpool by 17, now only 11. My point is that there is little point in celebrating a record points total when your nearest rivals have gained more.
