De Gea's improvement in the second half of the season and his growing in stature was one of the main reasons for United's defensive record vastly improving from January onwards.

Outside of the top clubs and the names mentioned so far, Simon Mignolet has had a pretty impressive season. He has certainly been a busy goalkeeper with that defence playing in front of him, but he has won Sunderland a few extra points this season with saves he has made which have kept them out of the relegation zone.

I find it hard to rank GK in order of who's best as their form can change so quickly and dramatically with single mistakes haunting their reputations for a long time. For me, De Gea is up there but I don't think he's the best. An on form Cech would be my no.1 choice, followed by Lloris, Mignolet, Vorm, De Gea and Ruddy (not necessarily in that order). Hart had a cracking season last season but not so much this year and has shown serious inconsistencies. De Gea certainly has the most potential though, in the PL anyway.

Courtois > De Gea

Courtois is as good as De Gea was in Spain, however it is a massive culture change for a keeper to go from the Spanish to English league but i think Courtois has the physical presence to handle the change easier. I would not be surprised to see Courtois or De Gea become one of, if not the, best keepers in the world over the next 5-7 years but then again i have seen so many keepers show promiss only to fade away

GK is a strange position. They can go from being regarded as one of the best in the world to being relegated from the PL and being pretty average in a few years - Cesar

Tom Howard was excellent when he joined United, Dudek was excellent when he joined Liverool, we know how both of those went.

David James hailed as the next best thing, Robinson, ditto

Young keepers are what they are, iker casillas is one of the exceptions, he took the real No.1 and kept it. A really great keeper but even he made mistakes as all young keepers do.

De Gea will do as others have done, get more experienced and improve his overall game. Hart will too. Cech is getting back to pre fractured skull form. There are some excellent keepers in this league that's for sure. reina has had a bad spell but seems to be returning to form of late.

But all keepers made the odd flap, even the likes of peter and edwin, Edwin v Fulham, that was a comical ****up for such an experienced keeper<laugh> I am sure he was embarrassed by that one but they all have those moments and always will, the great keepers don't let it affect the rest of their performance and the following games.

Cech by some distance. See saves v united this year, fa cup final last year. Both were saves of the season. Can't believe this is even debated.

Its being debated because many people, including several of Cechs and De Gea's fellow pro's currently believe De Gea to be better.

Also, people keep mentioning Cechs saves......... almost as if thy are unaware o some of the near impossible **** De Gea pulls off. Real Madrid, Chelsea, Everton, City and more....

Like this one v you guys in the cup.... not suggesting its SOTS btw, just an example of what this chap can do.
