Just thought I'd try this out as an idea. It's a bit labour intensive, but all the quotes are real and unedited although some have been shortened. I think it captures the mood of the moment quite well. ************************************ AUGUST 2012 Saturday 18th August - QPR 0 Swansea 5 The season starts with a bang with Michu and Dyer getting two apiece and Scott Sinclair scores his final goal for Swansea. And how we laughed when Liverpool had a tonking at West Brom, losing 3-0. Saturday 25th August - Swansea 3 West Ham 0 We carry on where we left off with a comfortable victory over West Ham Tuesday 28th August - League Cup 2nd Round - Swansea 3 Barnsley 1 The Capital One Cup begins with a home victory over Barnsley and goals from Graham & Moore (2). Did anyone realise how it was going to end? SEPTEMBER 2012 Saturday 1st September - Swansea 2 Sunderland 2 Steven Fletcher scores twice on his Sunderland debut, Neil Taylor is stretchered off with a broken ankle and Chico Flores does his kung-fu kick on Louis Saha to get a straight red card. Saturday 15th September - Aston Villa 2 Swansea 0 The start of a mini-slump as the good start grinds to a halt. At least Villa beat us before everyone realised how bad they were. Alan Tate gets a start. Saturday 22nd September - Swansea 0 Everton 3 Moyes does a number on us yet again Tuesday 25th September - Capitol One Cup 3rd Round - Crawley 2 Swansea 3 Our hardest game in the cup run was away at Crawley. After going 1-0 up and then 2-1 down, goals by Graham and Monk save the day. Saturday 29th September - Stoke 2 Swansea 0 If I live to be a 100 years old I donât think Iâll ever see Swansea win at Stoke. Two goals from Crouch do the damage.
Not sure that was AD's intention, bony - at least I hope not. People shouldn't be afraid to make comments. Sometimes we're right, sometimes wrong. That's the nature of the beast.
Absolutely not, the intention is to get how people were feeling and reacting at the time. I've tried to display average sentiments and certainly not to point fingers I was going to do a review with my own perspective but I thought that would be a bit dry and probably tedious so I decided to include bits of other peoples' posts which would bring in everybody else. It takes a long time to trawl through old threads and pluck out appropriate comments. There's obviously scope for parts 2,3,4 and 5 to finish the season off, but if people are perceiving it as personal attacks then I won't bother. I'm easy either way
Really interesting to read that. Comments about De Guzman, or I hope we get bradford in the next round! lol
You could PM people Aswan and ask if they don't mind you posting their quotes. That way no one can accuse you of having a pop at them. For what it's worth that's not how I read it anyway
This is a fantastic idea! You should do one of these at the end of every season and they should be archived on a link page. Accurate representation of the ups and downs of a season. The replies to each season's thread would give a real flavour of how everyone on the board assessed the season. Will be great to look back on in the future. Top, top idea Aswan! I'm of the same view as Musty. I'm sure I said stupid, rash, things over the course of the season. I'll enjoy laughing at them as much as anyone else
Great stuff, Aswan, and reflective of how we felt at the time. This is a very entertaining and interesting thread and credit to you for putting in a lot of hard work. I'm pleased in one particular respect, though, in that I picked up on de Guzman's laziness as early as last August. He has gone on to prove me right in that context but credit to him for his contribution in an attacking sense where he has made a lot of key passes.
