The Sun (yeah yeah, I know) has stated that young Jimmy Chester is at the centre of a tug of war between Newcastle and Villa. I wonder just how much they'd have to pay to get him? If he has a good season, I don't think he'll be too far off an England call (sounds silly, but IMO if they can call up Adam Lallana and Jonjo Shelvey then Chester should be setting his sights higher), so how much will it cost to tempt him away from the Black and Amber? I'd say 6.5m should do it.
Now we're promoted probably 3-5 million. If have taken 2 if we were still in the championship. But IMO, TWT on this one, if he goes we can always replace him with a FAT.
If he goes we need to look abroad.IMO I'd go for either a CLIT or an ASS. Cheating libero Italian twat Ageing Spanish sweeper.
Like OP says ... The Sun ..... Newcastle and Villa .... he wants his career to progress not propel backwards. Still if he goes we should get another Cultured Unfussy No nonsense Tackler. Maybe even an older experienced Formidable Athlete Not Nearly Young enough.
We got £4m for Turner when he was around the same age - and it was a rip-off. (Based on performances for us, he's never really rediscovered his form) I would say £5m-6m, but when we sold Turner he'd proven himself at the top level - Chester is yet to do that.
Thing was that when we sold Turner we where in dire financial mess. We aren't now so only need to sell if either we get a daft offer or we can get better. I think his performance after the New Year did drop off, so let the bidding begin.
Brown was forced by Duffers to see Turner for £4m despite making noises that it would need silly money. Chester needs to prove himself for at least half-a-season before you take these things too seriously
Sure they are bigger clubs, but Chessie needs first team football in the PL first & he's a nailed on starter with us. Villa maybe, Newcastle maybe not.
When people are quoting fees they're surely forgetting he has 1 year left, precisely the same reason we're supposedly trying to pick up Austin cheaply. If it applies to one it applies to the other. There's no way we'd get more than £4m for him with 1 year left for a player unproven in the Prem.
