Thing is if we charge silly money we may only get 25k, and how many will come if we stink out the npc for a couple of years. I sense another upfuck in the offing. A New 35k - 45k stadium for a newly relegated team with our finance as they stand is a ****ing joke. TF thinks the best way to advetise your brand in formula 1 is to buy a ****ing team, No Tony its cheaper and a lot easier to just buy all the trackside space for a couple of races every season and revel in the neural TV 'air time' as opposed to the pity minutes your team currently generates. Lets just remember how to crawl a little before we call out usain bolt again. FFS
How do you know what TF is thinking? You will need a bigger stadium if you are an ambitious club. And from my perspective it fits well in a long term invetstment plan. Thank you TF for this.
I remember talk of the stadium being multi purpose so the fact that we are relegated will not stop him pushing on with his other, well I will call them franchises. Concerts, boxing and many other events may still be held at the location irrelevant of our league position meaning that we may not need to fill the stadium as the overheads we face won't be as great. Being in the premier will be his aim, as the advertising stream that he clearly desires is far greater than the football league and most other avenues he could purchase. He has pushed on with tune talk and tune hotels, so why not push on with the TRIPLE A, nice touch with the name by the way.
We arent going to charge silly money, hes already stated that the German model is good, charge very little but get the stadium full with reasonable prices and food and make money that way.
Stadium full is what really matters. Hope it turns out to be 30k or less, would be nice to be able to get food though.
Me too, I travel 2-3 hours both there and back so it would be nice not to be lugging a bag around all day. It will be 35-40k. Clubs get an extra 6-8k with a new stadium without any success at all. I think for us that would be even more, people who are over 5ft 6" cant watch in comfort and its almost impossible to watch the game with a couple of mates at LR. 25-30k would suit us in the NPC, 35-40k would suit us in the PL. We cant expand with a roof so we have to go with the biggest option right away.
This. How are we going to sell out a 35K stadium especially if we charge the premium prices "because that's what the other [bigger? better? London clubs charge." Question for Tony. If you are coming to London for business or pleasure on your budget airline for th weekend and would like to take in a game, you have £250 burning a hole in your pocket and you want to buy 2 tickets for a game on Saturday and all the bits and bobs (drink, pie, program and souvenir) where would you go - Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea or us? Bit of a no brainer really. Even for a successful businessman. If the aim is to attract bigger attendances by appealing to the tourist and corporate markets, we have to be sensibly priced. If we want a raucous atmosphere with a full and noisy away contingent, we must not deter them by charging up to twice as much as they charge us to watch away games. Better to have 3000 away fans paying £35 each than £1000 paying £55. Or am I missing something simple here?
Been expecting an announcment for a long time now. It has even been sugggested that Loftus Road may also renamed to Air Asia something to help circumvent the FL financial rules.
Is it just co-incidence that the three teams relegated from the Premiership this season have 3 of the four smallest grounds? In order -starting with the smallest: QPR (18k), Swansea (20k), Reading (24k), Wigan (24k)
Very good point. IMHO no, it isn’t a coincidence. There’s no doubt in my mind that having a Championship/League 1 standard stadium is a real handicap to any team wanting to compete in the global franchise which is the Premiership. I don’t mean that simply in terms of the limited match day revenue you are able to generate, but just as importantly in terms of attracting players and building a big brand. I love Loftus Road and will miss it greatly when we leave. But let’s be honest, if we don’t move on then we might as well resign ourselves to becoming West London’s fourth largest club behind Chelsea, Fulham and even Brentford with their new stadium, and settle for battling it out for the rest of our days in the lower leagues. A modern, larger stadium is absolutely essential to the future of this club, and as long as it’s fit for purpose they can call it The Tony Fernandes Sweaty Gonad Arena for all I care.
Spot on TIMK. There is no middle ground in the modern game. If a club takes the king's shilling in terms of a big investment by international businessmen than along with that comes a project to grow both at home and abroad. Many of us have been lucky enough to have been QPR supporters in an era when a well organized club could (and in our case, did) punch above its commercial weight but that is rarely the case these days. If we want even a reasonable level of success in the future then a new ground is essential.
TF knows what he is doing. Remember, he bought Air Asia for £1 and lots of debt for just two aircraft two days before 9/11 and look at it now.
£150m ??? For a 35k multi purpose stadia?? WTF are they building it out of, solid gold?? That's a ridiculous amount The Liberty Stadium construction cost was reported at £27m, Cardiff city stadium £48m and even the millennium stadium with a 70k ish capacity only cost £120m albeit 10 years ago Unless that includes the land purchase it seems we're throwing money around again
Thats because the land is worth about £1.50 per square mile in Wales. Our land purchase alone will probably cost more than Swansea or Cardiffs ground.
