<peacedove>It has been rumoured that Manchester City owners are going to appoint Rafa
    Benitez as their new manager.
At least he is going to get them out of the group stage of Champion League next season. He is very good
in Europe.Winning the premiership title I cannot say.<ok>

Not sure I see that one happening tbh, I reckon they'll be after Ancelotti

Rafa would definitely take it though!

I think Benitez has earnt a job like this. I also think he will like the look of the squad already. Silva, Barry, Aguero, Tevez and Kompany were all often linked with us in Rafa's days. Javi Garcia and Rodwell are also pretty well suited to Benitez to.

I'd expect him to add a center back and a striker, but that is all really.

They could fit well. He also has the disciplin that Mancini lacks.

As long as he keeps good player relationships.

Can't see it happening, but if it did and City gave him the same time that Mancini has had then he would build a good squad and get the club as a whole on track.

    I hope this doesn't happen.

But that would make it more difficult for us to win the league next season. <whistle>

Well, well well. The BBC seem to have changed their tune a little bit. A lot of positive Benitez comments on their live feed highlighting the excellent job he's done at such an unstable, ridiculous club. They're even acknowledging the fact that he was the first to commiserate the Benfica players and staff. He was also seen posing for photographs with stewards and professional photographers for their own little keepsakes. Top bloke is Rafa <ok>

I like Brendan but if there was even a sliver of a chance the owners might want to bring Rafa back I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

As an outside observer, Rafa bought a LOT of over-rated and average players for a substantial amount who he used in his squad policy and having left lumbered Liverpool with some big problems... Why would City want him?

No no, why would you guys want him back?

If he was allowed to manage the side and not have any say in transfers (unless he can lure the odd extra Spanish wizard with his bedroom eyes), then fair enough, his strengths are getting the best out of players already there.

Brendan has a much more limited budget than he ever did, and to be honest his stuff seems as entertaining most of the time, and that's as someone who thought watching Liverpool's European and domestic Cup displays between 2002-2008(ish) was the pinnacle of football.

City do have some pieces that Rafa would love to use and would suit his style. Kompany would be boss for Rafa, probably would help take him to another level I would think and he is already right up there. Think he would get more out of the likes of Garcia, Rodwell, Tevez, etc. Hell half of that squad I think he wanted at one time at Liverpool!!!

I think he would do a great job at City. People like to go on about his failed transfers but forget to mention the world class players like Alonso, Torres, Mascherano and Reina he brought to the club. The 2009 Liverpool team was the best Liverpool team I have seen since 1990 and its a crying shame we could not keep it together. Apart from Robbie Keane I think all of his signing that cost £15M plus were big successes and at City he would be able to afford a lot of £15M players

I'd love to see Rafa land the job. And finish above Chelsea and also make more plastic flag comments in the process.

Those chavs keep saying "Oh we were 3 points behind united when he took over" and this was a week ago, just in some attempt to prove themselves right all along about Rafa even though he has done better than RDM was ever gonna do this season, they'd have certainly won nothing under RDM this year as last year's honeymoon ended by the 2 week of the new season.

What the plastic fools don't understand or cannot grasp is that managing a football club is not like playing Championship Manager where you load up a saved game and carry on from where you left off<doh>

The only reason I would not like to see Rafa at City is if City make Jose an offer he cannot refuse:) If that happened I would not be totally shocked at RA offering Rafa an extended contract.

I would be happy enough with Benitez to be honest
Other than the at times baffling premeditated substitutions and more defensive set up than us warranted against teams they should've swatted aside,he's managed to a very high standard at Chelsea in very difficult circumstances
A man who knows how to win trophies is not to be sniffed at and given a choice of Rafa & Moyes would be a simple choice for the spaniard

To be fair, there isn't a manager in this league that doesn't make wrong substitutions. And some of Rafa's have turned games right around and got the result.

he aint perfect but he's far better than most fans give him credit for.

There wouldn't be any problems with the crowd either
I've never known a City manager not receive the full support they need, even the odious rag twat Hughes was supported as was Alan Ball who we knew to be a ****wit when he took over
