I'd be critical of Warnock in that he was seduced by the bigger names - Barton, SWP etc and seemed to regard the Championship players as inferior. Adel, for example, who had been wooed by Warnock the previous season to great success, had the captaincy stripped from him ( if I recall correctly in favour of Joey) and when he threw his toys from the pram at Fulham, NW commented that if Adel wanted to leave he could do. All this could well have fuelled the resentment and split in the dressing room that, ultimately was our undoing.
Back to the OT.... To some extent, the Wigan players were gutted because their target was relatively modest (two victories) and, as a result, their fate had only just been sealed. Plus they had fallen from the dizzy height of an FA Cup win. Whereas our fate had been on the cards for some time and avoiding it required a series of unlikely victories. ("Unlikely" in the sense we needed 4/5 wins in 4/5 games, yet we had managed only 4 wins all season.) I think our players were a bit too composed after the Reading draw but I don't think it quite bears comparison with the Wigan situation.
So it has come to something when a former manager is blamed for the panic buys! The rot had set in before if flavio and bernie didn't want to give any money to Neil Warnock to bring in players, why didn't Amit bring some in using his father in laws money?
