Just spoke to my dear old mother in Sheffield ............... in between her usual rant about the state of the nation, country full of foreigners, the European Union is crippling us etc etc she mentioned the weather - cor blimey just 6°C today in Sheffield. We lucky buggers in Berlin will be treated to a much more pleasant 26°C today ................ now where did I put that cold beer? And another thing - I keep reading about the Eurozone being in the longest recession for donkeys years, so why are many of the European stock markets at record levels? Maybe our resident financial expert, Toppy, can explain?
morning all-- those races at York are as usual very competitive, i am going to put up Singeur in the 2 15, a horse that goes on all ground, but with low draw, R Winston in the saddle and the stable in top form, he must be placed at least--12/1 is a good price for him. Just another caught my eye, a horse who has won on both his last two reapperances, Bilash in the 8 40 at Bath-- he has won twice at nottingham, but run many times at bath--could be A Hollinshead's first winner under his name....good luck all...
Also on the Maarek bandwagon last night at 6s. Slightly disappointed the goings only good, good-soft in places- hope the rain keeps falling.
I'm going to have a stab at those York handicaps for interest but no money down - I'm ****e at reading those big handicaps, fecking useless
Right, I've had a study of the 1.45 at York and I have it between 2 horses - the Cecil horse First Mohican and the JP McManus owned Prompter. First Mohican is, I guess, the obvious choice, having rattled up a very impressive hat-trick last season (all 3 coming with juice in the ground). He was heavily backed for the November handicap but disappointed, maybe due to the livelier ground, maybe also partly due to the draw - there was very little pace where he was drawn. He may well have progressed from 4 to 5 and conditions should suit him today, but can he land this off top weight? Prompter is a very interesting runner for Jonjo O'Neill. Formerly with Michael Bell, for whom he finished placed at Group 3 level and had some really decent handicap form. He went to Jonjo last spring and 3 moderate efforts in novice hurdles got him a really nice mark of 108 for his handicap hurdle debut, and he absolutely sluiced up hard held by 3 lengths at Bangor. He was turned out a week later to try and take advantage of his mark but was beaten into 2nd at 4/7 and hasn't been seen since, so perhaps had a problem? He gets into this off a mark of 94 and could be absolutely thrown in on his form for the Bell yard. Ryan Moore gets the ride today and I think this one will go very close at 8/1. 1pt win First Mohican, 2pts e/w Prompter. Last and second last no doubt ..........................
Walked on the track this morning and 'squelchy' would be my official going. Puddles in places but not quite a mud bog.
