Morning all, Don't know if this one has been done before on here...... Had a long discussion in the office yesterday regarding football shirts and which ones we own. I will admit that I own various shirts and I also collect shirts of teams from places that I visit abroad. I have various QPR shirts from the last 30 years. Barca,R Madrid, Milan, England, India, Spain, Brazil, Peru, Flamengo, Toronto FC, NY Cosmos and quite a few more. The general consensus was that most people owned a shirt of the Football club that they supported. Many also had shirts of foreign sides that they liked to wear either because of an affiliation to them or just plain liking the the shirt/team...National teams also came into the mix with many of us either from another country or born to parents from another country. One thing was apparent though no one and I mean no one wore/owned a shirt of a another club from the country in which their team was. (Well no one admitted to it anyway) Oh there were some strange things that also came out...One chap a Chelsea fan wears only addidas gear, A Man Utd fan said he will never buy Samsung because they are sponsers of Chelsea. A Liverpool fan admitted that when Utd had Vodafone as a sponsor he never went near them. A Spurs fan never went on the O2 network as Arsenal had it as their shirt sponsor. Just wanted to know how many of you guys own shirts of other teams.
Over the years I've had a Besiktas shirt (ex girlfriend), Linfield. (Mates team in NI), Glasgow Rangers, Marseille (another ex) and Guatemala national side (yet another ex). Saying that I don't tend to wear any now, not even our own.
Had an Inter Milan shirt back in '89 when you never saw foreign shirts as much, cost me a fortune at the time but always got positive comments at games as it was deemed quite rare. Had Ajax and Atletico Madrid (my mate was half Spanish and a fan) in the 90s, but tend not to wear them nowadays. Occasionally roll out my old late 80s early 90s QPR shirts for the retro look, luckily I've not turned into a fat barst so they still fit well (thankfully I always bought them on the baggy side as was the custom at the time)
I have a Malaga shirt - used to live there. And also a Grampus Eight shirt as they were going cheap and we needed a jersey for our uni 5-a-side team.
I will admit to owning other English team shirts for my sins. I have a Liverpool GERRARD 17 shirt from where a friend and I went to watch them play Alaves in the UEFA Cup final (he wore RIISE 18) and I also own a SHEARER 9 newcastle shirt from the Bobby Robson era which i used to hang (reversed) on my wall when i was a lad. I also had a couple of spurs hand-me-downs from my brother that i would wear to football training. This was all from around the time when QPR were well out of the top flight and getting a hoops shirt (before massive internet ordering etc) was pretty hard and the rangers shirts I had were from the days of the 90-95 era when for some reason all football shirts were size XXXL and they were too hot to play in. Several of my mates who i used to play football with also wore shirts from clubs they didnt support. A spurs fan always wore a man city away shirt and another spurs fan had a fulham shirt, they just said they had them laying around and that playing football in a new club shirt which cost 60 quid was pointless so they grabbed what they could on the cheap. I have a huge collection of foreign shirts which i usually buy to play indoor 5-side in, i think i have 4 barca, 6 bayern (played in germany and spain for a time so followed these clubs while i was there), also have betis, hamburg, Denmark, several England, juventus, lots of milan, inter, Marseilles Living in Uganda, they have knock off football shirts for about $5 that look almost identical. Now they dont play well as they are made of heavy man made material so you sweat like a pig, but i now pick up one or two of whatever looks nice at the market, got Dortmund recently, their UCL shirt for about $4, with tags and everything, you'd never know the difference! I also somewhere have a lovely Uganda home shirt!
I proudly wear my QPR and French shirts: Montpellier, National Team and a very old La Tour Blanche local team shirt. I have never nor would i be seen dead in an England shirt ... I will or have never wear/worn Umbro .. Chelsea. United or Brighton. I had owned a Juventus shirt with Del Peter on the back as my old team used to play in the Newcastle strip. The QPR and Celtic hoops are classics and we shouldn't **** around with them. I would wear a Celtic shirt based on the hoops thing
I was one of the kids who always got football shirts, always. So I have had loads from around the world and in England, obviously several QPR kits. Arsenal, Blackburn, Burnley, Everton, Liverpool, Man United, West Ham, Newcastle, Leeds, Peterborough from England. AC Milan and Juventus from Italy. Barcelona, Real Madrid from Spain. Kaiserslautern from Germany. Besiktas and Fernabache from Turkey. Brazil, Italy, England, Holland, Germany, Spain, Argentina national team shirts. Probably a few more i've forgotten too. Never let myself buy a Chelsea shirt though. Ever
I had a Barca shirt with the name Hughes on the back (have I ever mentioned that before?) I have a Madrid shirt, that I some times wear when my quiz team goes pot hunting...our name is "Surreal Madrid" I have an old Admiral Welsh shirt, and an old England away blue shirt and a OM shirt that a friend in Marseille got me....I do not like to talk about that
