No idea, I've not seen any articles detailing the implications of Wigan's relegation, we might tomorrow though...
Yeah, but the point is if he doesn't have a relegation clause a release clause is meaningless as they will be desperate to offload him.
I reckon a cheeky £3million might get Maloney! Such an under rated player, who's finally coming into the limelight. As long as we don't sign Di Santo I'll be happy, he's gash I'd go with Austin/Rhodes, Maloney and Alex McCarthy at Reading.
They are playing it because it's the current go to formation and has been for a few years now. A 4-2-3-1 tends to focus around 4 attacking players and possibly a 5th and 6th depending on the team (a full back and one of the deeper midfielders). No doubt City will play with the 3 centre backs, one sitting midfielder and the other 2 midfielders will be expected to come back and defend, the wing backs pull back and form a defensive 5-3-1-1 shape. It gives a solid base in the middle and as many teams through the years have proven (Milan's 4-3-1-2 when they won the CL twice in 3 years, Barcelona and their 4-3-3, Juventus this season), you can defend wide areas with 3 central midfielders providing they all shift over together and stay tight. I'd say 3-5-2 gives flexiblity, only slight tweaks need to be made whether playing against 1 or 2 striker formations, gives the 3 midfielders which nowadays is the norm for keeping possession and gives us the 2 man attack. With 1 substitution (or a central midfielder who can play outwide) we can quite easily transform into a 4-4-2/4-4-1-1.
How much you reckon we'd have to spend to sign all of them? You say £3m for Maloney, £4mil for Rhodes, McCarthy? I think we need a few others as well. And Rhodes' wages are very high.
Didn't Rhodes cost almost double the amount suggested in this thread? And he is one of the top scorers in the league. I'm pretty sure Blackburn will be keeping hold of him and definitely not take a loss on him because he is key to their promotion bid next season.
Connor wickham is another name which I don't think is too unrealistic. He might want to leave to get first team action, not sure about finances though.
Mannone Douglas (from FC Twente) Glenn Murray (if not promoted in play off final, if he is then Javier Saviola on a free)
Everyone who thinks wigans team will be open to walk in and pick off what you want needs their heads banging. They have just got relegated and will want to come straight back up. They have qualified for the Europa league and I'm sure the majority of the players will want to have a good crack at the reward they've worked so hard to gain. It will take more than peanuts to lure them away. As far as I know (admittedly very limited knowledge on Wigan) they're not in bad financial shape and don't do overpaid tossers. They probably won't need to sell. And this ones an 'if', Martinez maybe taking over at Everton, if he does then he will probably take the better Wigan players with him. If they were going to go anywhere it would be there. For the relatively little amount of money I expect we'll be spending, well need to be looking at could be's and has beens. Established top flight players will cost too much and have better options available, especially if they're available at a price affordable to us.
some weird ****ing names being branded about here... zamora??? really? Murray?? (sideline for 6 months and 29 years old!!!!!) Deeney??????! who would want such a ****
