He may never win a popularity contest but its business that matters and turning the club into a self sufficient successful club. I cant think of anyone i would rather have, will be a sad day if ever we lose him.
Here's a music video which you guys might agree with the sentiments of:
Precision in language usually involves a level of verbosity that many find incomprehensible so I have resorted to using words and phrases that even the most intellectually challenged of posters would comprehend and feel confident responding to. Having seen your post I am reassured that I have achieved my objective.
If we separate our emotional attachment to the Liebherr family and our memories of Markus from the reality of the situation, the fact is that our resurgence as a football club has been orchestrated and driven by one man, Nicola Cortese. The Liebherr Trust as financial backers are, let's be blunt, replaceable. Nicola isn't, and if push comes to shove will find new sources of funding. We cannot afford to lose him.
It could be like a season of 24. After Jack Bauer takes care of the 1st terrorist we find out that a more dangerous & cunning terrorist was in charge all along and they now have a more ambitious plan.
Indeed, and as for arguments that suggest there are other good Chairmen in the World, fine, but we already got one, don't need another one, entirely happy with this one. Thank you.
Just to clarify I want cortese to stay because he's a very good chairman not becuase he's a good bloke because I have no idea whether he is or isn't a good bloke. Amazing how I took the stability we had for granted now that it could be lost its all rather worrying.
Personally I think the bloke is probably a bit of a barsteward. But he is a rare being in the world of football - he runs the business without emotion. I will be gutted if he goes, and I think one or two of the players will be a little naffed off.
There are far more people on this Earth who could run a football club with massive financial backing than there are people with the requisite riches to provide that backing. What exactly is it that Cortese done that is so great that wasn't either a no-brainer when handed with gobs of cash that is not yours, or that we weren't all crediting to Adkins three months ago? I think people tend to be risk-averse and therefore overvalue whoever might be leaving. If we separate out our emotions, isn't the biggest, most important thing that happened to Saints resurgence the fact that someone pumped in 40 million to pay all of our debts as well as additional cash flows for infrastructure improvements, transfers and wages?
I think the problem is not so much Cortese leaving, but what it suggests for the future ambitions of the club. If he goes it indicates that the Liebherrs have not bought into Cortese's plan to push on in the way the players and the fans have, so what then?
Yes, I agree. That's exactly what I was trying to say. Would prefer to see Cortese stay as I think he's done a good job. But if he goes I am far more worried about what this might say about the owners than that Cortese can't be replaced.
We are EPL next season because NC convinced ML to buy the club. NC has been behind every major decision the club has made since then and we now have coming up a second season in the EPL because of the work done behind the scenes; quietly, dilligently and with a level of business professionalism rarely seen in football. NC is, thankfully, not in this for the glamour, but has the drive and ambition to make this club something special. He may not be one for the limelight and appears a quiet and reserved character - but as always - actions speak louder than words - NC is certainly that and we should consider ourselves fortunate to have him.
