I'm not so sure. I've seen the pale spectre of AKCJ haunting this board, since his teams chance of promotion died.
I thought only posh people had babies in hospital in the old days!! Born at home in north hull delivered by the GP dr deacon, while the old man waited patiently in Nelson.
If you look close enough in some of the shop windows you will see where Scarb bought most of his present wardrobe.
For more old pics and the like have a look at Backtrack Hull and Hull and east yorkshire memories on facebook. Plenty of old pics and discussion on those groups.
From the above mentioned site, here's a picture of the Wilberforce monument when it used to light up(1933), we should illuminate it now... please log in to view this image
Ye I do mate. I also remember Bridges having one on Sutton rd. we used to nick the empty bottles round the back and take em into the offie to get money back on the empties.
I agree - and possibly move it back into a more prominent location? (It used to be sited at Monument Bridge next to where Princes Quay is now) How many tourists will see it in it's current location? That said, it is about the only thing of interest to tourists between the old town and the Charterhouse - but we're that bad at promoting what we have in the city, I'm surprised if tourists even know about the charterhouse (the obvious way would be to send them via Blaydes House instead).
West Street, between Hammonds and what's now the Prospect Centre car park. Edit: If you go on Google street view and look up at the side of Hammonds, you can actually see where they bricked up the hole when the bridge was removed. I used to go in the Star of the West quite a lot.
Really?!! If the new bridge is anything to go by, it'd take them a couple of years to move the Wilberforce Monument then. I went to the Streetlife Museum the other day for the first time in years - reading up on Victorian Hull. They had much less resources than we do today, but were soo much more productive.
I just went by and looked at the hole in real life. It's there! Bricked, obviously. I didn't specially look I might add, it was en route. I've only ever known that street with PC right beside it. When did all that go down at the car park get built?
Just stunning, Why would you get rid of that. There seems to have been some really beautiful looking buildings in hull. I would have these over any shard or Gherkin. **** i am getting old
