We have an ambitious young manager, who last night put himself firmly in the frame for the Everton job - making it pretty clear that he wouldn't turn it down if offered. Fine - off you go, thanks for the last two years. The way we feel about him is irrelevant - he's just looking to get on and views this as 'business'. We are trying to build for the future, we should not be looking over our shoulder every time a 'better' job becomes available. How can we prepare for the Premieship under these circumstances. Plus, if he is up for grabs for these sort of jobs (which he clearly is) let's look at the Premiership as it stands. The Jacks are likely to finish seven points above relegation, so any team below this (and possibly the Jacks, as seven points is not much) could struggle from one season to another. On this basis, and recent sackings - jobs which could come up before the end of January: Fulham Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle, Norwich, West Ham, Stoke. Which of these would he be prepared to take? Who knows - they are more established Premiership clubs than we are. What is the point of him still being here? Get the £3 million compensation, and find a manager who will stay for at least 18 months, as I don't think Malky will. The simple words 'I won't go to Everton' would make me think differently, but let's face it he'll go if he can. Let's just be realistic and treat it as business too. We need to move on, partly so that we don't enter next season with a feeling of uncertainty over our manager's future, team building and recruitment.
iggypop - That's just the way the sport is. On your basis; why would we bother signing any player with ambition if we feel they would accept an offer from a more established team? We use players and managers just as much as they use us. If malky stays and we finish 10th (you never know ), what's to say he won't stay with us the year after because, essentially, there will be very few teams above us that would want him, and he wouldn't want to go to a "worse" team. We're going to have to put up with a lot of this if we plan on staying in the prem for many years. Relax and enjoy the ride
It is business, and as you rightly said, should treat it the same as players and managers do while working in that area of debate. He can't take the Everton job because it hasn't been offered to him, and we can't get a new manager in till he goes, that is the way it works in this business. So he hasn't done anything wrong and nothing can be done about the way these things are handled. In the meantime he has to carry on as if he is staying, and in that respect he will be doing the best he can to prepare us for the PL, and really thats all we can expect
to be fair the reason he is getting linked with big jobs is because he is doing an excellent job here. bringing in a new manager, we would get the same problems assuming he were to do well.
Premiership teams are much more 'newsworthy' so expect stories about players/managers on the move pretty much constantly from now on - 99% of it is just garbage You also cant expect a manager to be loyal to a club these days as hit a bad run of form and 1/2 the supporters will be calling for their head.
my mind boggles drag queen still being able to to wum **** over here ,yet i get banned over there for calling musty a cock sucker .dill it ok son mussty going to do a warm fart any min about now realise feel the power
Phill If your boardroom is so "right" why did Martinez and Rodgers move on? Also, if, hypothetically of course, Man City or Real Madrid were to come calling do you think Laudrup's answer would be the same? It's all down to a third party's perceived ability of a manager and if the manager feels that a proposed move will enhance his career.
Another insightful comment (WUM) from Dragon. I actually miss Dai! Our terrible boardroom that saw us get promoted as Champions...sigh. As STID says. Managers DO NOT get shown loyalty from clubs when things go wrong, so we can't expect them to say when they are doing very well and get a good offer.
Martinez moved to a higher division and Rodgers moved to a much much bigger club, both no brainers really. The only thing that pissed us fans off was the manner in which they did it. Be grateful that Malky isn't declaring his love for the club now only to end up moving on the Everton once they offer him the job. At least he is being genuine I would fully expect laudrup to take the Madrid job if it came along. And what dragon said was true. If your board are shrewd and are able to make an appointmet of a similar style manager, then the transition should be easy and won't affect the club to much.
MM has never hidden the fact he wants to manage a big club. I don't see Everton as that big a club, but they are a club that can pry him away.
It's odd. The last thing I would consider in football is another club other than my own, especially wasting my time winding up other people related to that club. It all seems a little bit of a waste of time. I 100% enjoy a bit of banter, talking about games that might be played and learning about the opposing teams strengths and weaknesses, but all this constant bloody moronic stuff is making me think twice about continuing to post on this site. It's all just a bit childish really. Anyway, about the original post... Am I the only one who viewed Malkys interview as a balanced statement saying he wanted to stay at the club? He said a lot of positive things, though if I missed anything I would love to be put right here of course. After watching it I actually breathed a sigh of relief. Obviously I'm in the minority here, but I don't think he will go- unless Everton say, "here we are Malky, a contract and 40 million to spend" - then he would be an idiot to stay here. Either way, we are in the Premier League, regardless of whether he stays or goes, but calling for him to leave makes us no better than the idiots at Chelsea who don't realise how lucky they are. I'm looking forward to a summer of transfers, and transfer speculation. Bring it on!
Uni It all went well until Malky nervously tried to dodge the direct question about Everton's interest by trying a hospital pass to Laudrup. That is where a definitive "no" could have removed doubt.
