Because I thought that Liverpool fans were supposed to be 'fair and reasonable', and I thought that one of them might just be that. Obviously I was wrong.
Not really sure that it is relevant that they were Scousers.I've been to Liverpool a fair bit and found the people decent.Drunks are drunks, that's what they do.
Not every single one. Who on earth would believe that the club someone supports dictates their qualities as a person? Like every club we have our fair share of idiots following us.
It's a fair point, but I still think that if you are wearing your club colours, you are making a statement that you represent your club. You are an ambassador and you are proud of it. If you were to wear a work uniform and do the same thing, your employer would be livid for the same reason. I think other fans have every right to consider the kit people are wearing if they are being obnoxious.
Unfortunately when booze is concerned your always going to get the odd dickhead. It's not geographical or socio-economical thing too, I've seen people in bars in the city behaving disgracefully, Posho's throwing punches at one another and creating a racket in Cambridge. Unfortunately 95% of the time, you can't reason or have a reasonable disagreement with people who have too much to drink, because they are always in the right and feel aggrieved when rightfully insulted.
^That^ But well done Maestro for standing up to the scumbags! I've done enough away matches, and myself and the crew that I've been with have got a bit lairy on occasions, but we've always toned it down if women and/or children are nearby...it's the obvious thing to do. Full credit to you for keeping your self restraint, if I'd have been in your place and had my boys with me I'd have probably laughed it off (as would my boys), but if my daughter was with me... But as above, I wouldn't look on these as Liverpool fans, just total scumbags, the sort that you could meet anywhere in any town or city.
I do think Scousers get singled out for special treatment though.Liverpool is a lively city with a distinctly anti-authoritarian streak that sometimes borders on anarchic.I think you could find supporters of virtually any club who just happen to be prats.
Oh I completely agree. I still think all fans have to accept responsibility that wearing the shirt/scarf bestows though.
As a father of daughters. I, of course, sympathize with the distress of a young girl, but what an awful comment to inflict on all fans of that club.
As a fan of stats maybe I can put it this way.Probably 95% of fans are decent people and the other 5% are scumbags. This figure (or whatever the true one is depending on your definition of decent and scumbag)probably holds true whatever the team they support, wherever they live.
Trains have officials on them. But theses guys are quite happy to bully children who are standing but when it comes to something a bit more serious, they hide. I use the train regularly and have seen it happen time after time. Some of those lads were out of order. One obviously needed a bit of corporal punishment as Dave says. But there are people on the train whose job it is to crack down on this. Branson is a smarmy, pretending to be friend of the people, greedy git. He lost his train franchise ad cried to his political buddies and got it back. You can write to him and he will do bugger all.
Agree with almost all of it apart from the CP.Bet Jimmy Savile would have offered to do the job for free.
My personal experience's of Liverpool fans is not good. To try to prove how "hard" you are, even when drunk, in front of a child is reprehensible, it's about what I would have expected unfortunately.
Useless and cowardly security people are among my pet hates. They are like people who wear combats but have never been in the armed services (oh bugger, I bet that has stirred it up). Or people who by bloody great 4WDoff roaders and drive around towns. (In for a penny).
Firstly maestro, very sorry to hear that you have had to experience this, and well done on attempting to deal with the situation face to face with them. I wouldn't have had the balls to do that. But, I think its very harsh to make this as a liverpool problem, every single club has their morons, Ipswich, Norwich anybody. I hope your daughter will soon forget about the numpties.
Not stirred it up with me.Military wannabes and Chelsea Tractors are fair targets.I think with security a lot of them are minimum wage older men who (quite rightly) don't want to get filled in for ajob that pays six quid an hour.
Unless him and his marketing team see it as a good opportunity to gain some positive press and exposure and will offer a token gesture of their 'goodwill' while condemning the behaviour that takes place every week with little done to stop it.... They will only do anything if they can gain from it, it's business after all.
You can put some bouncers in that bracket. There used to be a doorman and door lady in a pub I attend who loved to brag about their door exploits. My pub was never renowned for trouble so it was genuinely not the baddest of pubs just busy and quite a big venue, one summer though a mass brawl broke out which I could compare to battle royale this spilled from the beer garden into the carpark with zero intervention from the door staff! The manager and a couple of bar staff tried to split it up, luckily the cops arrived hastily in a couple of vans. A week later the doorstaff were standing at the bar bragging to a group of regulars, how they had people in holds, knocking a couple of them out, so I pipe up and tell them their talking ****e. The woman one pulls me to one side and says I done my job I got them out of the premise 'no you ****ing didn't love the fight spilled out into the car park whilst you both done **** all!'
