Harry Redknapp wants Gary Hooper for promotion push By Liam Power, Reporter Filed: Monday, May 13, 2013 at 00:35 UK Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has reportedly made Celtic striker Gary Hooper his number one transfer target this summer as he bids for an instant return to the Premier League. Hooper has been consistently linked with a move back to England in recent seasons, with a trio of bids from Norwich City failing to meet Celtic's valuation in January. Despite dropping to the Championship next season Redknapp believes he can persuade Hooper to spearhead his attack at Loftus Road next season, according to The Mirror. With competition high for Hooper's signature Redknapp is prepared to splash the cash and is thought to be hopeful of reinvesting funds generated by a mass exodus in West London. Hooper's future remains open for speculation, with the forward still waiting on an improved contract offer from Bhoys. http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/qpr/news/redkanpp-wants-hooper-for-promotion-push_84142.html
I'm not so sure about Hooper's ability. I don't pay much attention to Scottish Football but I don't remember him doing that well when Celtic played in the Champions League against a higher class of opposition than what they face in their domestic league. Would he "drop" from SPL and CL to the Championship........... I can't see it myself.
he did score 4 in 11 games in CL, so that's not too bad, and the opposition isn't CL-class in championship. Would love to see him switch narrow green hoops for thicker blue ones for next season.
We've all agreed on here many times over that Scottish football is NPC level at best. Therefore slightly concerned re this especially about 'splashing the cash'. Haven't we tried that already?!
He is probably too good for us. Norwich will be his address and he will score double figures. We should have bought him three years ago.....
Not sure. Now we have Wolfswinkel I don't know if they will spend that sort of money on another forward. Also, despite being in the lower league you will probably pay higher wages.
No doubt about it he would be a great signing....but I doubt he would come from cpl and Scottish champions to loftus road highly
You are joking right? we are the bloody hoops in London. We are at a low ebb but we will be back and this is not about buying in players IMO it's about a much harder thing than that ... trying to get the confidence backs to the good players we have. I am sure we are in for a lot of new names on here over the next few months. I have very little faith in Harold at the moment but I am ready for him to learn me .. I think we will buy maybe a load of rubbish and then **** off. Hooper has a great name for us but he no better than a Danny Graham IMO. Redknapp it seems has pissed nearly every player off in the club on purpose so he can build it his way ... that is a massive risk compared to getting a hungry clever manager in who would IMO turn what we have into gold again ... http://blogs.bettor.com/Harry-Redknapp-reveals-he-must-sell-to-buy-new-players-EPL-News-a78634
We had the chance to sign him from Scunny but as per usual we came up short! Would be delighted to see him in our hoops but fear he'll go to a smaller Prem club!
probably this. We'd be reluctant to pay over 30k, but with some of your player on more than that he'd be well within reasonable negotiation tactics to ask for more from you.
BC I guess it depends on what happens to the pieman over the summer. I think he'll finally go and you'll bring someone like hooper in to partner van ww - why aren't you playing becchio??
i think pieman will stay now, if only to be part of a higher quality strike partnership. He's hitting twilight years now, so may want to see it out with us. Who knows? The becchio thing was a bit of a debacle really, and wouldn't be surprised if he's loaned out to a championship side next year while we bring someone else in. He got a nice assist yesterday, but hasn't even made the bench most games. Sorry to col and Flyer that we didn't join you in the drop, but hurry up next year and get back up (we'll try and stay up too!) QPR add a lot of interest and drama to the Prem.
The Pieman just hasn't had the chances this year with the different style of play.He has mainly ploughed a lone furrow with little hope of scoring.I hope he stays but if he did move on he would be devastating again at Championship level. Best you hope he doesn't follow you there.
They rejected over £9M for him in January. I know he's been cack since then but surely they're not going to drop their asking price to a sensible Championship level?
If he comes to us, the abuse I will give him will make Bosingwas afternoon look like a picnic. Good or bad, QPR are never dull on or off the pitch. Tango and Cash, Faurlingate, Paladini and guns, several deaths, even more managers etc
