I agree the past can not just be forgotten. But there is a lot he and the club can learn from that period to make them stronger under CH leadership next year. CH is still a newish manager. I can see the merit in what he has done, creating a more ridged and defensively minded team. Tbh it had to be done at some point. It may not be seen as attractive part of the game but if we defended like we did last season we could have been in a lot of trouble if we were found out up top. Now I as do most feel he was too negative, but this is one of the things that must be learnt from. Yes the defensive organisation etc is good but in the off season we must address the balance between defence and attack. Steps have been taken with the signing of RVW already, and I expect more forward thinking players will follow. If next season CH and the players can get a balance between CH defensive organisation and ridged formation with a more positive attacking outlook (similar to today) we could have a very good team. I think it took a lot of getting used to for the players completely changing the way the team plays, but with this basis we have a much better foundation to be able to control a game even if it maybe hard to see that an the moment. Im quite positive about next season! (For now anyway haha)
But do you really think it is any good just keep getting rid of managers? He proved today that if he allows the midfield players a bit of slack, we won't always need tow defensive midfield players. Just because we are little Norwich doesn't mean we have to follow. I remember Stringer and Walker showing some real iniative and innovation when they played three centre backs and Culverhouse sweeping behind them. Took everyone by surprise. The fourth goal today showed me why the Leeds fans thought Howson was our best buy. And as long as the board tell him what they want and not what he wants then we have to give him another chance and end these constant managerial departures.
Why has it taken 37 games to get there, in a frankly enforced must win game? It reiterates what most have been saying, we didn't need the ultra defensive approach in such a vast quantity of games. It proves the players were good enough to score goals (even if against a team with nothing to play for). If he changes I'm all right with that. And Beefy, you just don't understand the points people have been making over the last few months. I'm beginning to think you a dwarf, midget or pixie because so much of what people say goes straight over your head?
I'm asking this and not trying to be offensive but have you ever been right about anything, ever? Was all the bellyaching and whining worth it? What is the sum total of all your negativity been? Your failure is, frankly, delicious. Don't stop on my account.
Isn't that Paul Lambert at the back of the coach? So what is the point of posting that? Anyway Gandalf, you obviously haven't seen to many of our games this season! No shots on goal in most of the last 6 games, it's been horrible to watch at times, but watch it we have! Only once can I remember any vocal dissent, and that was when Hoolahan was substutited against Villa! "You don't know what you're doing" was the cry! The only time through a dire spell of 2 wins in 19 games! So before coming on here and berating us, get a few facts!
I once sent a picture of a pink handbag to you to convey my thoughts. I think this one works best for this situation. please log in to view this image
Beef. There is no need to react like this to carrabuh. yes, he has different views to yours, and he gives reasons for his thoughts. He does not post them just to wind you up. In the past, some of your posts have been very amusing, I will admit, but of late, I am finding some of your posts, and reactions to other city fans' views quite offensive. To be honest, I would rather read some of carrabuh's posts, even if they do seem 'doom and gloom' to your views, because he always gives logical reasons for his views. You, or anybody else might not agree with his views, but that is reason to be offensive. This has been a frustrating season for all of us, and to be honest, the majority of us thought we should have been safe a while ago. Yes, you are a passionate city fan, and everyone can see that, but I am sure carrabuh is just as passionate about our club.
I'm afraid I disagree Maestro. Carrabuh is just as brass necked in his posts as Beef. The reason for this thread is they are cut from exactly the same cloth. Carrabuh rarely gives much analysis and usually fails to engage with any contradictory evidence- he particularly makes a point of saying that he doesn't read others' posts. He and Beefy are both just as dogmatic, but with a different starting point.
He's negative for the sake of negative, it's a coping mechanism, basic psychology. If he wants to be wrong all the time and miss out on the good times who am I to stop him? We are premier league and we just won 4-0 and his response was "He's still bigging up the opposition" What can I say that can make him feel any worse, this season has obviously been such a failure and we should all feel mortified. A big, 70 million pound failure
I read the posts which are succinct and jnteresting enough Rob, not the grossly pedantic outbursts from yourself. I think you'll find many on here will subscribe to the fact I give plenty of analysis, unlike yourself.
Given that you don't read my posts, how do you know I give no analysis? I'm afraid you don't give anything like enough analysis. Your conclusion is always predicated upon the idea that the only way forward is a passing game. This hamstrings you completely because your arguments are utterly inflexible. You also work in black and white - Hughton is not your idea of good therefore he is bad. You also thought Hooper was a target man, based purely on assumption.
We saved our bacon today with a good performance against a limp WBA. we were lucky we had them today, and we were luckier still that the swans beat wigan the other day...a performance like that only serves as further reinforcement that it shouldn't have come to this, and I hope it gives CH a bit more confidence in their ability... I'm over the moon we won and have another season in the top flight, but let's not pretend that it wasn't far harder than it shouldve been, given our 1st half of the season. Thrilled for howson, really hope hughton dares to let him off the leash next season...
I'm berating those that are so wrapped up in a delusional fantasy they think Chris Hughton should have had you playing like what, Barca? Swansea? Liverpool? Arsneal? And that he should be finishing where? Top 10? Top 8? What exactly do you expect? From my point of view, way way too much. Norwich were hardly free-flowing masters last season. Lambert's Villa are hardly free-flowing masters this season... It's not plastic to think such outrageous things, it's just warped and fanatical. If you want to approach the FACTS, what posters that then erroneously throw the term in the face of others ignore, constantly... Norwich are well run, and thus up against it because they can't financially compete and won't break the bank to financially compete with others. That has such a massive bearing on the football and the players you can bring in, which in turn once again effects the football. Any Norwich managers will be up against it at this level for the next few seasons until financial fair play starts rewarding those who operate sensibly. Why do you think Paul Lambert left??? Because Villa have more financial clout and thus are a better bet for progressing quickly. That's not to say you can't have effective football, but it is saying staying up is a big deal, and that if you can leave your little yellow bubble for second, sticking with a manager who has progressed at every club he's been at so far, under tight wage and financial pressure compared with those around him, might be sensible policy Before you needlessly slate a manager, at least have some sort of reasonable expectation about what you want
I agree whole heartedly with this. Why have we had to wait half a season to play some decent attacking football? because CH had no choice!!! I think the phrase is '' Who dares Wins' I do not feel any different about Hughton. I am not looking forward to another season of ****e football, lets hope I am very wrong. Lets hope that is all behind us. We are Premier League for another season and maybe CH will have a lobotomy in the closed season and have a complete personality change, we can only hope. Now the boys can approach next week in a relaxed manner and spank Man City 4-0 as well...............OTBC
I think you're wrong about our expectations. Majority of fans want us playing similar football to last season under Lambert which was a lot more attractive and "free flowing". That doesn't wash with me all this we have to play boring football to survive. We didn't play boring football last year for a start. If Hughton improves the football than fine, but he's inherited an attacking team capable of playing decent enough football as proved last year. I think you're getting the fans concerns of Hughton all wrong. From what I've read, and what worries me is the form since Christmas and the frequent going into games not having one shot on target. I've never seen anyone demanding to play like Barcelona or wish in top 6.
