A Speed would have said "step out of here lads, let the defence get out, we're sitting ducks". That would have released HBA and Gouf into better areas. Chances follow and so on. Football is a lot more simple than some players make it. A spine is so important. You need someone guiding each area of the pitch. A goalkeeper, a leader at centre back who marshals it all, a midfielder who can manage the game, and a striker who will make it stick and put it away. All good teams have that.

The good news is that this was so. Why? You may ask.

Because if this tactic worked today then it would have justified everything that is wrong, so I am pleased it was so low and I hope that Llambias did too.

Good point. I think today was a perfect showpiece for the 'Pardew Out' brigade, which - let's face it - is about 99% of us nowadays. We relied on QPR (the bottom side) to create our goal-scoring opportunities for us by seizing on their mistakes. During the rest of the match we created next to nothing (apart from Cisse's offside goal) and didn't look like even threatening QPR during the second half. If we were playing Arsenal, Man Utd, or any other such team I would've said "fair enough", but against the bottom team you really have to do better if you want any credibility as an established premier league side.

It was awful to watch at times. This kind of football has no place in this division, let alone any aspiring top 10 team. We looked like two Championship stragglers slogging out an end of season match with little to nothing riding on it. As it is, I'm very worried about next season because if wholesale changes are not made, we'll be looking at relegation again...
