With Tony we're the funny farm of football and back to where we started... but who are we and where would we be without him?
People were talking about a protest on a recent thread - how about instead we call chant Tony's name from the minute they line up to kick off - make an impression!
Yes! That's about as positive a 'protest' as you can get. I suggest interspersed with chants for Amit and Mittal too. Got to keep them sweet also.
No not because he gave a random bloke a ST, but because he is a decent bloke, who does actually seem to care about our club, and is trying his best....and trying to learn too. The rot started with the Goons, not giving Colin any help until really too late. Give the TF a break
Well said, Beth. There was a steep learning curve for our owners, but increasingly, I have faith in them. I'm convinced they'll wise up quickly and won't leave a stone unturned to get us back into the top tier.
Maybe I was a bit strongly worded but I think he gets off too lightly. The pr stunts are nice and I think he's got good intentions but at the end of the day everything stems from him and his naiveity is one of the biggest reasons for our season.
What would you prefer? Fernandes, doing his best to bring the club forward, by backing the manager with money and support, but along the way he has to learn from mistakes he makes? Or a return to a type of owner who not only recuses to spend any money, sack a manager every few months and can't recognise their failures as we had with briatore??? I know what I prefer! Fernandes may have made a mistake by not sacking Hughes a few games sooner, but he didn't because he tried to do the right thing. We became a laughing stock under flav, and I don't remember many fans saying they loved his style of ownership.
Well ideally I'd like neither, it might be too much to ask for but I just want a chairman who puts the interests of the club first, then I wouldn't complain.
That is precisely what worries me. Giving Harry fee rein to wheel and deal. Leaving no stone unturned. Wigan's success today showed clearly everything that is wrong with our approach. Steep learning curves are all well and good provided the owners actually learn the lessons. And the fans too. What has happened almost makes you yearn for the good old days when we scoured the leagues for cheap young talent available on free transfers because we could not afford anything else. How many times this season have we compared our star names with those playing for let's say Wigan. Macarthur, Macmanaman, Maloney or Bosingwa, Wright Phillips and Ji Sung Park? I know which ones I'd prefer. It is a disgrace that we do not seem to have any scouts out there. Or take Villa as another example. Half their team came up from the youth team and most of the others were recruited from the lower leagues. Benteke was the one major acquisition. Instead, we got Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora Come on Tony. We are behind you but this is a wake up call.
Agree. "Leaving no stone unturned" doesn't mean paying money blindly as before. It means doing research, looking at what has made other clubs in our position successful (WBA a good example), having Harry through scouts look for those few gems in the leagues below or the talent in overseas leagues. I sense the owners will be quick learners, and the Mittals a really good influence. There'll be a deep and searching inquest going on right now
Like our performance this season, a few wheel just fell off one of Tone's Caterham F1 cars in Spanish GP - driver actually made it back to pits, but was forced to retire - pitstop 101, attention to detail stuff.
