No Fran is right. If they win on penalties they will be tired, mentally shattered and hungover We're also back out to 80/1 with most bookies now, don't think I'll be getting on that now.
We play Sunderland before the Arsenal Wigan game, so it may well be irrelevant! Said it since we got to 39 points that it would be enough to stay up.
Whatever happens against City I just don't see them having enough to beat Arsenal. Think this time they are finally down.
Thy need to win to catch us, though we may already be out of their reach come Sunday tea time. I'd like a Saints win, with Norwich, Newcastle, Fulham and Villa all losing; this sets it up nicely for the last day.
Wigan almost certainly won't pass us, but to be honest it wasn't us they were watching. They can still do it, but it's the hope that kills you...we can remember that feeling. Reading and QPR have already mentally moved on...their fans are happier than those at Wigan, Norwich and Newcastle.
Your are quite right, its certainly not over yet. If Norwich lose to WBA- which may well happen, after all you just never know which Brom team will turn up-& Wigan lose to Arsenal as many expect, it could well come down to the last day. If it does, I wouldn't bet against Wigan climbing above them.
I'm feeling pretty confident we can beat Sunderland this weekend and start looking up the table again. And as I can't see them getting anything from Spurs on the last day either, it's starting to look like the fascist De Canio might do to Sunderland's football club what the right wing idealogue Thatcher did to their heavy industry. I sort of hope not, actually.
First prize for the political link! Don't you think a nice calm 0-0 draw will suit both clubs? Could we see a re-run of the Saints Spurs game in '78 when no-one made a tackle or took a shot on goal?
Ideal scenario; Those currently on 38 points not to lose on Sunday. Arsenal beat Wigan on Tuesday. Wigan relegated. Nothing to play for on the last day and nobody cares.
I don't think the speculation that Everton are looking at Martinez as a replacement for the departing Moyes will help Wigan either. I can't recall a time where managerial speculation has done anything other than damage the performance of a team.....
Are you saying that Sunderland now play a modern fast and effcient style of football not needing 5 players to fetch the same ball and not needing a tea beak every 15 minutes ?
Totally disagree with this. I love watching the agony and the ecstasy of the last day. The fans' reactions are brilliant theatre. Unless, of course, you are one of the affected. Oh, "Canarian"! Well from your point of view I can understand it.
