I'm not convinced he is on a par with Harper to be honest, even with Harpers obvious deterioration. I think Elliot has had some decent games and made some decent saves. To me though he is pretty **** at this level. He just doesn't convince me at all. When it comes to crosses he's like Dracula, and he just seems to let some poorly hit shots dribble past him. His judgement (a key attribute in keepers for me) is terrible. Aerially and when one on one. I can't put him down as having done well!

His fitness levels concern me too. And his eye make up. <laugh> I've tried to find the positives at times but I can't kid myself, I don't rate him. I will say one thing though, his distribution is 10 times better than Krul.

What Freddd has plainly failed to take account of is the limited sample of games people have had to make a judgement on the lad. The Europa campaign was piss easy for Rob, he had so little to actually do, and the quality of strikers from some of the teams are similar to his level.

He's been found wanting in premier league games. If the first shot is in any way decent (near the corner OR hit with any sort of pace), it goes in and Rob tends to have a shocker. If it's poor and Rob makes a save, he goes on to have a passable performance.

Collecting crosses he's surprised me with, and his distribution has come up to scratch quickly, but his agility, handling and general shot-stopping isn't good enough in any shape or form.

Probably the best part of his game.

I must be watching a different Elliott to you lads because I think he is poor overall on crosses. He was horrific against Sunderland and 2nd half against WBA with the crosses. Fair enough against WBA we were being bombarded but he had the back fours arses dropping out further than they had already. Don't get me wrong he has taken some crosses along the way but he misses his fair share and doesn't command his box in terms of crosses

He's had a couple of fumbles, but in general it is the best part of his game. Krul is the best in the league at cross-catching, so I don't know if you're just making an unfavourable comparison?

When Elliot came on against Sunderland, he made an immense catch from a corner straight away, and he tends to deal with them well (when he doesn't punch). He doesn't have any real presence, but when there's a gap to go he'll grab the ball. Anybody goes in front of him or mixes it with him, he'll do what he did vs Henderson's free-kick... fall on his arse randomly. But Krul has done that as well.

Right, so we have a limted sample of games to judge him by. Sometimes he's been ok and sometimes he's been poor.

On the basis of this limited smaple of mixed results, you feel able to concluded he's ****e.

I'll let you work out how sensible, or not, that is.

Right, I'll talk in piss easy sentences...

I'll let you work how arrogant, or not, that is.

We could do this all day. Having played in the position, I know what I like of a goalkeeper, and he doesn't sufficiently fill the criteria at the moment <ok>

Krul has had a poorish season for me. I just feel with Elliot he is below par in most areas. His distribution is quite good. He did take a great cross against Sunderland but a few times at WBA he barely got off the floor having misjudged his jump. Regardless he's a poor cover PL keeper for me.

Just looked for the "goalkeeping performance versus liverpool" (also known as the Elliott is ****e) thread.

I found it on page 3 and tried to bump it. Got a 404 message and when I looked again it appears to have disappeared.

So, call this the goalkeeping performance v west ham, (or the Elliot isn't really that ****e at all) thread

Every keeper has a nightmare but Elliot has worse. He is a decent keeper. Nothing of the standards of krul but, when we need him to, he pulls off some cracking saves

Sub standard reserve keeper. We need another option. The club appears to know this, hence the interest in Brentfords keeper.

Vorm would be great, but as he's the person who is fighting with Tim for the Dutch natinal team no1, don't think he'd consider being back up

Back to Elliot, I thought he had somewhere between a good and a very good game. He can make crackign saves. He has good distribution and sometimes very poor judgement. That last you can work on, especially given his age.

At the risk of ruining a good debate with facts, here are the recent stats.

This calendar year, Elliot has played 10 prem games, plus a number of Europa league matches.

The 10 prem games have resulted in:

    3 wins
    2 draws
    5 losses.

One of those losses was the Derby, which we were losing 1 - 0 when Elliott came on. Another was Liverpool, which was a nightmare for everyone on the pitch, certainly including Elliott.

I've gone through the nufc.com reports of the remaining 8 matches. Only one of their descriptions of the goals scored suggests any degree of blame on Elliot, that being Wigan's second in which an attempted Elliot clearance bounced off a team mate and into the goal. Frankly that strikes me as a bit on the unlucky side but opinions may differ.

So exactly which goals are we blaiming Elliott for ?

He has made a number of extremely good saves. He must therefore be plainly culpable for a similar number of goals in order to be properly labelled dog ****. Which are they ?
