Looks like he's finally going to step down. Who would you pick to replace him? Moyes and Mourinho are the favourites with the bookies. Moyes has always impressed me.

Oh please, doesn't even bear thinking about.

I would suggest all these rumours are because Mourinho's on the verge of joining Chelsea, he's had a chat with Fergie and Fergie says he's got one or two more seasons left. He can't sign for Chelsea and then be Utd manager in a year or two.

If true, and as much of a prick he is sometimes, he will be a huge miss to the English game.

There won't ever be another Fergie.

As ManU are listed on the Stock Exchange in the US, they are required to announce a chief member of management is leaving....so far no news.

You are right Saintsfan4life, but a small part of me has been waiting years for him to retire and hopefully signal the start of United's demise.

Ferguson is a great manager, but I have wanted him to retire for years. Not as annoying as Redknapp (because he has actually done something), but I hate the way he always believes that ManU are hard done by:steam: The only time I liked him was when he praised Saints recently.

Could be why they won't confirm or deny it yet to anyone else though...

Got respect for Fergie what has done, but please don't try to tell me we need to be sentimental about his leaving! This is a man who uses his godfather of football role almost every week to get his own way on & off the pitch. I was hoping we'd be in the prem to see him leave, sounds like a good send off. Here's hoping for the same first two fixtures again, an easy four points this time. <ok>

Man U are normally very quick to squash rumours and they haven't with this one. Man U squad are off to Chester races today. Will be interesting to see if Fergie turns up!

I can assure you all that Manchester United's new manager will be a nice Scot's catholic with an attitude problem. That is what they like at United.

I guess the rest of the season would be considered "Fergie time" then?

Respect, please! Fergie is a gruff Glaswegian and doesn't suffer fools. Ask Bob Wilson about his humanity; or Nigel for that matter. Wasn't NA on the phone to him the night before the news of his departure broke. Fergie's programme notes for the game at Old Trafford were generous towards Nigel, while not slagging off Mauricio. Yes he's a cantankerous old sod, but without doubt the best manager in the business.

I don't expect United to plummet as they did after the Busby era, however. Sad to report, it's true.

The saddest part of this news to me is, the Football League has lost its second longest running manager in the same week as the Prem loses its 1st. Is Kenny J going to get the Ol' Traff job? Maybe.
