Turners (Everything but the Girl) was also on Anlaby Road on the opposite side to Tower a little way out of town past Regent.

Maybe I'm wrong then, I didn't actually do any furniture shopping in Hull in the 80's, but I always thought it was a middle of the road shop.

Quite correct and their sales slogan "everything but the girl " was always prominently displayed in the stores windows. Thet used to be between College St. and Norfolk St.

    super, smashing great

Hull is a giant council estate.
    full of Kosovans
with prehistoric animals in the council, who in the right mind would award it to Ull?

True. History at home and beyond.

Next time anyone has a pint in the Tigers Lair, stop and think about what that building used to be and how it has become part of the heritage of millions of Americans.

So many ****s think "culture= affluence" or "culture= posh"

It's depressing as **** that so many local thickos voted against the idea of entering the city of culture competition like it was a badge of shame or a pisstake or summat.

These braindead ****s are the ones who hold us back, support LFC, say Hull is **** etc.

It's a fairly harrowing story, but one that shows how much things have progressed in Europe.

I heard about that, it was a staging post for eastern Europeans emigrating to America, off the boat then off to Liverpool then on to Ellis Island for entry into the states. I think it's a fascinating story, just think what them poor people went through and I'm pretty sure the tigers lair was kinda grim at that time

The story was on Coast recently too. Hull has a lot of culture and history though most people can't be bothered to look or simply don't care.

As the Beautiful South line goes "Optimists look up, count the stars, pessimists look down and count cracks" - a very apt line indeed, especially if you walk down Whitefriargate with some of the fantastic buildings.

That coast was very flattering, if I wasn't already living here, I'd have been tempted to visit.

There's the old Harry Lazarus hotel on Posterngate too - where many of the migrants stayed mid-journey.

It's a sad fact, that regardless of where you live, you're unlikely to appreciate what's on your doorstep.

Even people in Cornwall don't go to Cornwall on holiday.

Depends what people class as cultural. Some have different brandings ie architechture? History? Scenary?

Now people want clubs, pubs and cafe culture.
