So many permutations; so many possible outcomes; so many twists and turns to come and still 8 teams realistically involved in the shake up, this is going right down to the wire imo. If Wigan win tomorrow night then the game is well and truly on. 4 teams on 38, 1 on 39, 2 on 40 and 1 on 41. We are as much in this as any and although this was a great point earned tonight, it was also an opportunity lost imo as well. We should have won the game but did well in the end to come back from a goal and a player down (the less I say about that bloody stupid tackle the better right now as I'm still incredibly angry with Gardner) but it is an opportunity lost for me. Now we go into Sundays do or die clash struggling to put out a team and Larsson looked to be struggling when he came off. As for the game tonight, if ever there was a game of 2 halves this was it. Shocking first half and rousing passionate second. Where has that Adam Johnson been all season? He was magnificent in that second half and beat 2 and 3 men at a time all game. Jinky Johnson come on down. Rose was fantastic again and JOS solid as a rock and gamesaver in front of goal. Larsson and N'Diaye put a great shift in and the rest rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in. Then there is Danny Graham? Has a player ever worked so hard for a team but without ever looking like scoring. I really hope he can get on the scoresheet because his efforts warrant it. Never easy being a Sunderland fan and it looks like they are going to put us through the wringer again. Roll on Sunday and the 2nd instalment of the trio. Must win........I'm tired of hearing that and saying it tbh but my God, its a must win for sure. FTM and KTF for another 2 games anyway.
Yep that's the Johnson we were all expecting when he signed for us! Its definitely getting a bit spicy
Yep its deffo s**t or bust time against Southampton, but looking at some of the remaining fixtures dosent bloody bode well for me.The end of season " we re safe " syndrome may very well kick in with some of the teams that are involved in this scrap eg what kind of Swansea will we see at Wigan tonight. Will QPR blood untested or lack in effort against the skunks, furthermore will WBA be arsed against Norwich next week ? Lets not beat about the bush folks weve all seenit happen in past seasons with alot of these type clubs with nowt to play who switch off, wheres we will have a bloody cup final on our hands with a weakened squad against a team equally in the clarts as us
Michu out of tonights game and rest of season, f sake. Lets just hope Luke Moore is eager to show what he can do. My concern is West Brom. There game against Norwich could save us if they win as Norwich play at Man City last game. West Brom have nowt to play for and it showed on Saturday losing to Wigan
We're deep in **** and we're struggling to put a team out. My main worry is that we looked really nervous in the first half and it took a jolt to get us motivated, stray passes all over the place, lost possession and inviting pressure from a **** Stoke team. If we do that against a decent Southampton we'll get stuffed and you have to ask 'where are the goals going to come from'?
I'm hoping the 1st 30 minutes last night were hangover from the Villa game and that the 2nd half performance has cleared their heads.
A very, very jittery first 30 minutes, i just put it down to nerves and the occassion but we never came out of the blocks running for sure. If we start on Sunday like we finished last night then we'll be fine, my fear is that we let the nerves creep in again.
It's in your hands. Wigan win tonight and it's effectively out of our, (Norwich's) hands with four on 38 and 2nd worst goal difference. We can't see how we're going to score against West Brom, we couldn't do that against Conference Luton.
We are ALL in the **** mate. I dont hold with this if we beat this one and they get beat of those ones stuff as I've seen that gop tits up too many times before. This one is going down to the last breath of the last minute, of the last game for sure. Lots of possibilities and eventualities and we are as much fecked as the next. Even if it means the mags are fine I want to see Swansea win tonight but I have a bad feeling Wigan will turn up again and sneak a 1-0. If they do then I'm going to need 3 pairs of **** stoppers for Sundays game.
I couldnt see us having a shot kidda never mind equalising but then the Adam Johnson show turned up? Where the **** has he been hiding all season? He was sensational for 40 mins and they just didnt know what to do with him. They even tripled up on him and still he showboated his way around them. Magic Johnson returned to the NE last night for sure. 3 pairs of keks needed for Sunday though.
He was superb mate, and at this point in a depressing season, to think he is getting there for us, and to think he Sess, Mignolet, Fletcher, N'Diaye ^ Rose could be the starting blocks for next season, gives me great hope. If we go down, we lose all bar Fletch IMO, and we are starting from scratch. Sunday is massive, I honestly don't know if I can handle another relegation after so much hope this time, I'd always be a Sunderland fan, but I think, games wise, I couldn't go, I'd have to go to Hartlepool or Gateshead. It'll kill me if we **** it again, I will be physically sick if Wigan win tonight, and I think they will too.
if wigan get beat tonight, it will take a miracle for them to overtake us, as i just cant see arsenal rolling over esp if they are fighting for a cl spot (which is why a Spurs win over Chelsea may not be too bad for us in the long run) if they beat villa they will be on 38 points same as us but we have a far superior GD. so what i want to happen is (and it very rarely does happen) Wigan lose to Swansea Wigan Lose to Arsenal Wigan beat Villa. (we stay up even with 0 points from 2 games) Newcastle lose both games Norwich lose both games. Wigan stay up, we stay up, toss up between toon and norwich, dont really care either way but toon would be nice, and if they do go down i just cant see then storming the league again.
Problem in first half was aj and Jmc playing out of position. Jmc is out of form then playing him out of position he looked really scared out on right. Sending off helped us as they went back to their natural positions and amazingly both looked happier and then played well. Hope PDC learns on this and leave jc at right back he looked good there. Even against spuds when drose cannot play I would leave Jc at rb and play bardslay at lb.
Steve, You are the stats man, can you knock do a 'probabilities of relegation' or summat, based on past results. It's my straw and I will clutch anything!
Great point mate and although PDC has brought a lot more spirit and fight to the table, I have been left scarred by MoN's departure and failure at the club. He represented a massive opportunity lost for me and I do admit it failed. The reasons behind it though are not so clear and I feel that we are feted to be failures and although PDC may well just keep us up, I and my 2 mates (both of which I have been going to games with for almost 30 years) have still decided not to renew next year. We will still go to games but after 39 years of let downs, this season has been hard to stomach tbh and I will be selecting games next season to go to and it will depend on performances not blind loyalties anymore.
Well mate, I renewed, but I'm off back to Marbs soon, so there's a North Stand ticket available for probs half the games
well i believe Swansea have never been beat by Wigan in the PL (or at least i read that on the swans board earlier) Swansea also drew with Man City (no mean feat) Wigan havnt exactly done their usual WWWWWW at this time of year i believe its WDLLDW I will only get nervous if Wigan win tonight, but if they get beat then i just cant see us going down at all, (unless Arsenal **** up)
