"Responsible department: Department for Culture, Media and Sport

We call on the Government to ensure that grassroots football receives financial support from the Premier League.

Government cuts mean that many Local Authorities are no longer able to fund grassroots football. Fees for basic facilities are climbing to the point where ordinary people are being priced out of our national sport.

The Premier League continues to grow in popularity around the world. Domestic broadcasting rights for 2013-14 to 2015-16 have been sold for £3bn, combined with global rights the Premier League could bring in as much as £5bn over the next three seasons.

This cash boost must not be wasted on ever-increasing wages for players when grassroots football is struggling.

The Government must encourage the FA to ensure that 7.5% of money from broadcasting rights goes to fund grassroots football. If the FA and Premier League are unable to do so voluntarily the Government must be willing to take further action to make this compulsory."

It is disgusting what the premiership seems to be able to get away with. I think they are far too powerful and other football bodies too weak in this country.

Apparently many clubs are now either closing their academies or thinking about it because Premier clubs only need to pay a paltry sum to buy players say £100k and then let them rot

    It's disgraceful

What right would the Government have to tell them where to spend their money though?

I can't see them legally being able to direct funding otherwise they could use it for other things in the Government interests.

Also, not sure how Fifa would see it, and whether they would class it as Government interference which would lead to potential sanctions on the national team (although these rules may only apply to team selections and bans on players from Government).

I'm not against the idea, just the amount of power/legality the Government has to do it.

If government has the will, it'll find a legitimate way through the tax system. Don't hold your breathe though.

There`s nout to stop a player donating to a small, local clubs, I`m sure some do anyway.
Im no expert on these matters but I`d like to think Saints do there bit, as the Academy hovers up young talent there must be some reward for these clubs.

Signed. This will need to have massive support to stand the slightest chance of influencing government policy, but every little helps.
