Ronnie OâSullivan is on the verge of winning at the Crucible. Snooker genius. Shame to hear he has money trouble though the silver lining is him playing for longer.
Shows what a sorry state the games in to be honest that he can turn up after not playing for nearly a year and win so easily. Wouldn't have happened 10 years ago with the likes of Higgins, Williams, Hendry, Doherty, Ebdon etc about. Used to be a massive snooker fan but its poor lately.
They didn't have to play so many tournaments as part of the season either. They did pick and choose which competitions they took part in too. Plus, you don't exactly need 'match fitness' for snooker. He practised for two months beforehand so got his eye back in. Personally, I think it shows how good Ronnie is, he could have already broken Hendry's record had he not suffered mental problems. He is a legend IMO
Class player no doubt just saying he's the only top player at the moment so he's had it very easy this year. Standards just not as high as it used to be come the later stages of tournaments
Agree that the standard just isn't as good as it used to be, I've gone off watching most snooker matches and only watched a few from this tournament. Hawkins V Walden wasn't really grabbing my attention... I'd love to have O'Sullivan's money troubles btw! He's just earned enough from one tournament to send his kid through 27 years of university tuition
Suarez went the doctor because he kept getting stomach cramps, so the doctor asks about his diet, after Suarez mentions its very balanced in fiber and protean the doctor says its not likely to be that. He then asks about his exercise routine and then sleep patterns, and then if he drinks much alcohol. After being reassured that he didn't drink and sleeps well the doctor declares himself flummoxed. Finally he asks is there any other sports or exercise he does and Suarez says he plays a lot of Snooker. Doctor thinks about it for a while and then asks if he has any strange habits when playing Snooker? Suarez says yes, for some reason, and without understanding it himself, he sometimes eats all the red balls! Doctor says, "that's it, I've got it, you should eat more Greens".....................
o'sullivan is a wasteful pot head who has no repsect for himself or the game. that's why he's got money problems. 400k Plus winnings before he "retired" where'd all that go? He suffers from depression... fine... tough that and all but you are damaging yourself on top of it and making it worse. Finally... fine you don't like travel... no bloody problem. just play the bigger events and stay local, no bother! he's the worst champion in the history of snooker following his comments and that includes match fixer and drunk (two higgins)
Well I wouldn't begrudge Ronnie having money. He is the snooker greatest player ever and a true joy to watch. His lifetime earnings are what Rooney earns in about 6 months.
He has openly said its gone to the ex and lawyers etc. However, he has won an estimated £6m+ during his career, where has all that gone? I think Ronnie is a breath of fresh air for the snooker game. Okay, he doesn't always say the right things or act in the appropriate manner but he is what the game needs to liven it up.
£6m (-£0.25m on lawyer fees) spread over a 21 year career is not a huge amount relative to many other sports, though I don't know if that includes sponsorship and tax.
True but the first sentence of my last comment was in response to MITO's "400k Plus winnings before he "retired" where'd all that go?" comment.
He doesn't realise just how lucky he is that he has been blessed with such a natural gift. He's made a fortune out of playing snooker ffs! & yet to hear him moan on about it, you'd think he worked down a pit. I think he lacks a sense of perspective above anything else, he also seems intent on continually trying to bite the hand that feeds him, which is something that he'd be better off just keeping to himself.
Wasn't it Ronnie who almost didn't make a 147 break because the prize for highest break wasn't that good? (for him)
I fail to believe anyone can get 400k in one year, give hlf to the tax man, half to his missus and then fail to account for the other half. sorry... he's a muppet. this is like Gascoigne, i'm supposed to feel sorry for him cos he's a drunk idiot? astro... 6mil is not a lot? no matter waht if i had 6mil i'd be set even over 21 years.... lets be fair if i get 50k per year as a wage then that x 20 years = 1mil... the tax man takes half and then theres the mortgage over 20 years sucking the rest etc but i'd still be happy on 50k per year! he gets 6 times that and he's to be pitied? think about that 300k per year for 20 years... there's ceos that get less and swan round in expensive cars, big houses, trophy wives etc etc. I can't feel anything but wanting to see him beat. I am an o'sullivan supporter and wanted him to win until he said what he said. i've changed my mind. anyone playing next years tournament will be regarded as not a champion but just the guy o'sullivan would have beaten... and this depsite the fact ronnies got mullered by others in the worlds quite a few times.
Yep, wasn't going to clear the black until the ref told him to do it for his fans. But - as arrogant as that was - it was the genius of him asking what the prize money was for a 147 (knowing full well there wasn't one) after potting just 1 red and 1 black, then making the 147. Ronnie as a person is a complete tosser, but no can deny that he is such a privilege to watch when he's on it.
To be fair, you could make this point about 90% of professional sportsmen. Most of them earn obscene amounts of money for doing something most of us would love to do for a fraction of the price and in fact most of us pay to do in our spare time. Always go back to Ashley Cole who "nearly crashed his car" when he was told he was "only" being offered 50k a week
