    Liverpool are ready to move for Brazilian defender Douglas on a free transfer as a replacement for the retiring Jamie Carragher. The 25-year-old, who currently plays for FC Twente, was previously the subject of a £4m bid from Newcastle but he is out of contract in the summer.

    I said this elsewhere but I just cannot take anyone with the name douglas seriously as a footballer.

    I think of noddy holde ri nthat awful itv show with amanda holden... doug-LAS...

    he can't be any good with a name like that.

    Douglas is a decent pickup on a free. Not gonna be a starter, but a good backup on low wages. I'd be happy with that if it means we can spend money elsewhere.

    Honda's on a free who would be a quality signing if we showed interest. Lampard would be a nice bench warmer <whistle>

    I actually thought Kyrgiakos was ok. But I partly agree with what you say.

    I say buy with the mindset of two quality players in each position. If your the number 2 to Suarez you will only play 8-10 games a season so you will feel like a squad player.
