One word "Emotional" like been on the worlds scariest ghost train, your ****tin yer self as you go further into the ride, then the ride finishes your back in the sunlight, safe and happy...."UTT"
the final run it has hollywood written all over it , but it comes with a final twist . As City missed and Cardiff scored the pens' it seemed like Watford with ten men and a rookie keeper would grab an injury time winner , (that beat the buzzer " moment in basketball but in a plot twist to rival anything Leeds score , Crazy
It's as good as 2007/8 despite being totally different. We have finished one place higher but the outcome is the same. In 2007/8 we started having escaped relegation by the skin of our teeth, we were not even mentioned for promotion. Phil Brown did a great job in instilling a belief that we could do it- starting around January time. After that the bandwagon kept rolling and we had some great wins. The belief really gripped the City. To see shops and buildings decorated in black and amber was a first for this city. This time the atmosphere, belief and 'pressure' has been much more low key. (Deliberate or not?) but the consistency and quality of the play has been better. We have been handicapped by injuries specially up front in a way that no promotion team expects to be and we've still come through. The euphoria understandably is clouding some people's judgement and their memory seems to be playing tricks on them. All that matters is that we've done it for the second time in 109 years, our 4th promotion in nine seasons- THE Golden Era for HCFC. We lost our virginity last time in the Prem. This time we'll get it right. Staying up or not, we'll be steadier and wiser. (Have we started building the Academy yet?)
In terms of automatic promotion to the premier league for the first time ever and excitment my best season ever in 48 years of watching Hull City. Though i was just as delerious when we got promotion to the 3rd division, and to the second division.. I cant count the play off season or the play off final as i missed that and all our premier league games apart from the last five. Yup this season has to be my best ever though i have loved all seasons including the **** ones.. The great escape, Brian Horton, Terry Neil etc Some brilliant times, winning the 3rd division in 65/66.
I think we are back where we belong, we proved that we weren't a 1 season wonder, even though we did suffer from second season syndrome. Hopefully we can establish ourselves as a PL side.
Only the season we have stayed in the PL can beat this season in terms of success (which at the end of the day is what history will remember this year by), to have gained automatic promotion to the PL for the 1st time in our history as opposed to doing it by the play-off final (which did a day out at Wembley) would I think be the best and most satisfying way of reaching the land of the promised finances.
Certainly one of the best seasons I have witnessed, it would have been interesting if Aluko and Frayatt had been fit all season, as I think we could well have won the league with them.
