Why did it have to happen again? In a vital match we lose our two first choice keepers and playsomeone who has not played for us before. Stir any memories - 1987 Cup Semi-Fianl v Spurs - we lost Tony Coton and Steve Sherwood - and played a keeper who had not played for us before Gary Plumley - and he was responsible for letting in two goals. Gutted
I was there, i shouted to him good luck, he was gobsmacked someone knew who he was but he looked like a deer in the headlights. Today, how does that push get a yellow considering the injury, then again he did miss a stonewall pen.
Does anyone know what he rules are concerning emergency loans. Assume we are going to have to get someone in.
In answer to Hampshire's question, the push gets a yellow because that's what it would have been without the injury. The idea that ending someone's season isn't an aggravating factor is a hard concept to grasp on days like this, but as the rules stand the referee got that one right. Assuming that Almunia isn't fit (Bond's season is clearly over), what can and can't we do? Can we sign a free agent for instance? As young and inexperienced as he is, Bonham is a full-time professional, which I presume rules out the possibility of getting special dispensation to bring in a goalkeeper on loan?
But North, if Almunia is not fit we wouldn't have a back up keeper for the bench. Surely having only one keeper would qualify for a special dispensation? Otherwise...
I'm sure we can and will apply for special dispensation to sign someone from another club. But having Bonham alone might be grounds for them to decline the request (I'm not sure, but wouldn't be remotely surprised). ...otherwise, I presume it's a choice between academy youngster Daniel Wilks, evergreen Alec Chamberlain, designating an outfield player to play in goal should Bonham get injured or sent off, or signing someone who is unattached (as we did in 1987). Here's a thought, is David James actually contracted as a player at that Icelandic club he swanned off to?
You need the football league's permission to loan a keeper thats it. Thats the main obstacle but then you have to find a decent one who is available
Sounds more positive about Bond. #watfordfc medical team: Has been having X-rays at hospital. Broken nose, concussion.
Any news on Bond yet? Is it just a broken nose he got away with? If it is, will he be fit to play. I know Zola said he didn't blame Bonham in any way, but after the that 2nd goal, he looked a broken lad. Zola will have to work hard to rebuild the lad's confidence if the other 2 aren't available. Aren't papers cruel? Anyone seen the head line today - not sure in which one, only saw it on SSN - One paper has gone with head line....;'The rookie Crumbles'. Really hope the lad gets over it and can push on.
if I was Zola, I would play Almunia even if he is not 100% fit. The defence will feel much more confident if Almunia is in goal. In such a big game you cannot risk a goalie who may be nervous.
I am sure that for keepers you can request emergency loans - I am sure Udi have got a class keeper we can loan. May as well and no doubt it will mean we will get the usual crap from the illiterate idiots on here about just being a Udi C team - so why not?
