FIFA agent set for Sunderland director of football post as Short brings in Italian to oversee Di Canio

Sunderland are set to appoint an Italian FIFA-licensed agent as director of football as part of the widespread changes being made since the arrival of Paolo Di Canio as manager.
Roberto De Fanti has been working at Sunderland’s Cleadon training ground this week on a consultancy basis following owner Ellis Short’s dismissal of chief scout Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson and his UK assistants, plus scouts in Holland and Spain.
And De Fanti, who represents Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong and Manchester City’s Swedish striker John Guidetti, is helping with the recruitment of Robson’s replacement as chief scout with the likelihood of then being installed in a sporting director-style role.

Paolo Di Canio is to work under a director of football
A licensed agent having such an influential position at the Stadium of Light, especially in buying and selling players, will cause controversy. But it’s understood De Fanti is a Short, rather than a Di Canio, appointment, with the Sunderland chairman wanting an overhaul of the club’s transfer strategy following £30million being spent poorly in the last two windows.
It’s also said De Fanti played a part in recommending compatriot Di Canio to Short. A Sunderland spokeswoman said: ‘We are working through a number of changes leading to the appointment of a new chief scout.

feel a bit sorry for pop robson but he did'nt get it right so has to take the criticism and the sack, its a lot of money to spend without any improvements and ellis short quite rightly wont stand for it so heres hoping the next bloke does a lot better.

Means nowt unless we stay up......................and if we do stay up I do not want players from relegated teams, Fletcher apart they have generally shown the form that explains why their previous team got relegated and results in us being in this position.
