http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22396240 Not sure what to make of these comments. These remarks are cause for optimism: "We have gone through a period that was very sensitive, we are coming out of it now," This suggests to me that our years of austerity are behind us. Does anyone else have a different interpretation? However these comments are less encouraging: ". . . we have good young players and a squad with a bright future with the quality of the young players we have. It is just to manage it well now." What does this mean do you think? We only have to manage what we've got, or compliment what we have with some new signings?
Wenger time is up in my opinion. He wont sign top quality players like Keisuke Honda and instead buys rubbish like Sylvan Ebanks-Blake
I agree with your interpretation. It also suggests that the years of austerity were enforced by circumstance as opposed to personal philosophy. This summer will go a long way to prove this one way or another. I don't think there's anything wrong with praising the club's youth, and I don't think it suggests that he's perfectly happy with the squad as is. I guess it could be seen as him covering his arse a bit if things go badly in the summer, but again we'll have to wait and see at the end of August.
We will have to wait and see now won't we? What we do in the transfer market this summer, and how we perform on the pitch next season, if we look like challengers, being able to beat the big teams, not struggling to get into the top 4 etc.
I get and support this long term deal, and I take a lot of stick for supporting the club and Wenger, but even I think this point has been flogged to death over the last five years. I find myself agreeing with Arsenal87 , if we really are coming out of the tunnel, then that is going to have to be demonstrated. Just saying it isn't going to be enough.
Wenger absolutely MUST get another year. Now we will see for sure if he still has what it takes. Wenger needs a big Summer.
I agree with this too. In my opinion, if he really has ben under severe financial control (and I don't see any reason to disbelieve it), then he has more than earned the right to spend the money his restraint has produced.
come on ..........be serious. You cant STILL believe he is going to buy some " real quality " Not now , not after all these years you cant actually still fall for that one. No one could ..surely.
oooo dont go there for fucks sake .............we had this poll see............... i think the normal response to such a question is " if he buys some REAL quality in the window.........."
The question is though, will we be able to do it all in one summer window ? There's a big appetite to spend big this summer, but it's not always that straight forward. I think we need to be bold and try to sign 2-3 really top quality players this summer and it will be a test of the boards assertions that 'we can now compete with the teams around us', but I just think we need to be mindful that our intent is just one part of the equation when signing players.
He has turned things around. The defense/attack balance is far better. Everyone knows I was massively in favour of Wenger leaving this summer, and to an extent I still am. I'd rather he left this summer than next, but he seems to have addressed some squad issues this season, and provided Arsenal finish top4 & he invests well I'm not averse to him staying for another year or two. He simply must continue to progress however. There's been too much regression for too long. A good squad update with higher quality is needed, and it's needed in the first few weeks of summer so the newbies can bed in. No signings in the first month, and Wenger should leave.
Arsene Wenger is Arsenals answer to Margret Thatcher. Thatcher changed the coutry from Fiscal policy to Monetary policy which meant a few years are economic hardship followed by years a greater economic stability and Arsene Wenger moved Arsenal from Highbury the Emirates with a few years of hardship to give a stronger future. Lets hope we have decades of success as a result.
I'm sure many of the fans would wish Wenger was more like Thatcher and increase the unemployment rate at Arsenal.
You sound like that git Scargill. You know, that comb over commie who destroyed the mining industry in the UK.
Just had a thought, maybe its the wrong comparison, it should be one of our CBs. This Merts not for turning.
