Club announces its released list... The club can confirm that 10 players will not be offered extensions to their Leeds United contracts upon expiry of their existing deals. The players who are not being offered extensions are: Leigh Bromby Paul Connolly Davide Somma Paddy Kisnorbo Paul Rachubka Habib Habibou Monty Gimpel Sanchez Payne Patrick Antelmi Jordan Snodin Leigh Bromby, who suffered a horrific knee injury at Cardiff 12 months ago and hasn't played this season, will remain with the club next term, working as a coach with the Academy. The club will also continue to work closely with Davide Somma, another player who suffered a severe knee injury, on his rehab, and the South African international will have the opportunity to join in pre-season training with a view to assessing his fitness. Paul Connolly, Paddy Kisnorbo, and Paul Rachubka have all been out on loan this season. Kisnorbo made 58 appearances for the club, and the Australian international was a key member of the team which won promotion from League One in 2009/10. The club would like to thank all the players for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.
Surprised we are letting both Gimpel and Payne go. Payne did really well in the youth team and we beat out competition from Liverpool and Man City to get Gimpel into our youth system.
Didn't realise Payne was 20 deffo good decision to let him go. He's older than poleon and a lot further away from first team Tyler Denton seems a bigger prospect to be fair
Gimple is the shocker in the list TBH, he's only 19 and not really given a chance. So much for the next big thing in international football. Watch one of the prem clubs snatch him up and him exploding on to the world stage
Only I could change my name (from someone because they where leaving) to somebody who leaves at the same time haha
Habibou, we hardly knew you. How many minutes did he get on the pitch? 20? 30? What a waste of wages. Feel sad to see Kissa go. He was a legend in his time before injuries ruined his career.
Gimple is the only surprise although as I mentioned a few weeks ago, it was all forum hype, what a waste of wages Habibou has been, let's just hope BMD gets some backing and we see a few transferred out because that list isn't going to save much dosh.
BMcD has made some good strong decisions here. This is probably £25k per week saved. And none of them were players that we needed. On that basis, we could get in two damn good players at £10k-£15k per week, or maybe even push out the boat and bring in someone, just one player, with real pedigree at £20k+ per week, who everyone acknowledges is way ahead of everyone else in terms of talent and commitment, and who would be worth that money with no-one else arguing about it.
To be fair, the club are giving him every chance. They're helping with his rehab, allowing him to train with them, & who knows what might happen after that. Fair play!
Gimpel, oh dear, with a name like that.. how did he fail. Good luck to Somma, I think we all hope we gets it together in pre-season, gentleman's agreement there I think. Kisnorbo to me, is a bit of a legend (I'm 23) and don't really remember the champions league years, he gave it his all. Definitely good choice not offering him a new contract, but take a bow son. Job well done in my eyes.
No surprises for me. How many games for the first team did that lot figure in the past season? Basically none. As I've said before, there is no room for sentimentality when it comes to holding onto surplus players. Clearly none of them were ever going to figure in McDermotts plans so get rid. They were easy because they are out of contract. The next ten wont be as easy to shift. Replacement clubs need to be found for a crap bunch
Was going to be my next comment, they won't be missed and I see this as a gentle cull, I also agree the next ones out will be a lot harder to shift.
