Paolo has only had 4 games, 3 of them were away two of which were newcastle and Chelsea and our home game was Everton. Far too early to make a fair comparison.
Stats dont mean bugger all to me, Remember when we beat Swansea last season at home quite comfortably. They had about 70% of the possession but never troubled us all game. What it does show though is that PDC plays a better counter attacking game, the stats are lower (im guessing) because we sit deeper under PDC so people cant get in behind us, so invite more pressure and then quickly hitting them on the break and more efficient as well, hence the greater shot accuracy.
You think we sit deeper? I thought we sat further up, which allows us to get more players forward when we do counter. I would like to see Di Canio's stats without the villa game
We did against Villa because of the pace of their forwards, I need to be seeing more games under PDC before I make an assessment of our style under him.
4 games into someones management isn't exactly the best time to do this sort of analysis (Especially after 3 away games and 1 home game) Wait until we've had more games - once he's had 10 or 11 in charge then look at it (or more)! What were O'Neill's stats from the first 4 of this season?
MoN has the best first 50 games stats of any EPL manager for SAFC and if PDC can match that we will be doing okay.
The fact is Reid is our most successful manager over the last 50 + years. We never lost 6-1 under MON though. I reckon a year from now we will be back in the relegation fight unless massive changes are made.
OK then - p 4 w 2 l 2 We lost 6-1 in one game but also beat CHAMPIONS LEAGUE HOPEFULS 1-0 the week before? Why only look at the negative monty? Ah I forget - that's all you ever do isn't it
This. These players have now almost relegated us 2 years off the belt and have seen off 2 other managers in that time too. I dont think we have multi millions to spend so I dont see us being much better than bottom half dwellwers again next season tbh. Di Canio has lifted spirits in the short term but that 6-1 thrashing is the worrying factor - Villa are not even very good. I hope I am wrong but just working players 7 days a week and having a hugely likeable charismatic personality will get short term reactions but will it have long term benefits? I guess we shall see if we survive this campaign first?
2 wins and 2 losses is better than 4 draws. We needed wins (3 points) at this stage of the season and whilst a battering is not good I recall Newcastle getting tonked a couple ot times last season and they still finished 7th or whatever.
makes more sense if you read the full article where these stats were pulled from http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22346844 Opposition, No. of tackles, Success rate: Chelsea 23 91% Newcastle 22 86% Everton 20 80% Aston Villa 22 64% Seems like we were unable to put a decent tackle in at Villa.
Statisticians can make facts and figures read what they want. At the end of the day, the only one that matters at the moment are the number of points we garner from our remaining games, that is all that is relevant. Anyone who thinks differently is deluded.
