I've always loved the powerfulness of the Shakespearean actors voices.

Could you imagine how awesome it would be, to come into work and boom "GOOD MORNING" in a Brian Blessed manor... every morning.. quality!

Hard to say just one actor/actress, but top of my list would be Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Steve Buscemi - them alone would make a cracking night out!

Not if it was the new, pretty little secretary in the corner you'd had your eye on for a couple of days.

Seriously difficult to pin down to one. Actors - Denzel Washington, Daniel Day-Lewis, Kiefer (24 - Jack Bauer is a legend), Jack Nicholson, Gary Oldman, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise (particularly since playing bad guys), Paul Giamatti, Ed Norton, Bill Murray (Big Ern <laugh>), Benicio Del Toro, Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Just all depends on the film with me.

Overall I think I'd still go with De Niro on the basis of his ability to adapt to different characters and genres.

Daniel Day-Lewis is probably my favourite actor, with mentions for Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley. It's a difficult question to answer without reverting to your favourite films, I really haven't seen many foreign/indie films so can't give an honest appraisal of any actors that aren't 'Hollywood'. For women, I'd say Meryl Streep is the obvious one, her and Helen Mirren seem to have it all sewn up between them.

Daniel Day-Lewis is a good call, but, for me, Leonardo di Caprio. I think 'being Jack from Titanic' hurt his career early on, but he's certainly shown how good he is with films like Blood Diamond (one everyone should watch IMO), Shutter Island, Revolutionary Road, and Inception.

Would also give his Django performance, not because it was an overwhelmingly good film, but because he nailed his character.

Terry, the Better Half and I have subscribed to Cinema Paradiso because of the world cinema and it's hard to come back to the Hollywood mainstream movies. Most of the best films we've seen come from odd parts of the world and it's worth digging into.

I've mentioned Javier Bardem, for example. Most people would have seen him in No Kingdom For Old Men but it's worth checking out Biutiful which is a brilliant Spanish film (one certainly not put out by the Catalan Tourist Board) and when you're in the Spanish section Cruz' work in her native language is often better than stuff she's had to endure via Hollyweird.

And if anyone enjoys black comedies; may I recommend Aaltra? Mind you, it's typical Belgian but it's far, far better than any Hollywood Comedies. It is really worth exploring the forrin stuff; there are some absolute corkers out there.

Haha! Indeed it was a compliment - but it was a BBC review so maybe they were watching things they shouldn't have been watching!

For me it is Richard Burton, Morgan Freeman, Alec Guiness, Peter O' Toole, Richard Harris, Dustin Hoffman, Bob Hoskins, John Hurt, Anthony Hopkins. Also liked Jack Hawkins, John Gieulgood, Laurence Olivier and Richard Attenborough

As for the women, I could watch anything with Maggie Smith, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench or Meryl Streep in it

My favourite film is Gangs of New York because of Bill 'the butcher' Cutting and still now I think it's DD-Lewis' best performance, after that I'd say There will be blood and nobody can ignore what he done in My Left Foot. Morgan Freeman is perfect for me, so easy to watch, obviously that was his best film but he's had some amazing on screen moments, especially with Ben Kingsley in Lucky Number Slevin - people bang on about the De Niro/Pacino showdown in Heat but they don't get the chemistry, it's just awkward for me, Freeman & Kingsley is probably the best I've seen in terms of heavyweights going at it.

For what Xisco TC said, I kind of agree. LDC has done some amazing stuff, especially his work with Scorsese like Gangs of New York and Shutter Island, and he had the benefit of working with DD-Lewis and Ben Kingsley in those and he didn't come up short.

As for watching foreign films GloryHunter, I'd love to but firstly I barely watch movies anymore, not enough to justify a paid subscription and secondly, I've got the least adventurous other half when it comes to films, I literally go to the cinema with her just for the popcorn as I force myself through another Paul Rudd **** stain of a movie. Only when she goes away kindly for the weekend nowadays do I get to watch a few DVD's, I am jealous of other people's TV experience but it's not worth the hassle for me to force her through a film like Avengers or Trainspotting cos she just never shuts the **** up.

DDL in Gangs of New York is fantastic. LDC is excellent too.

I've never been a massive Tom Cruise fan, I think he is good but he got a bit same old same old at one stage. Have to say though Collateral is a great film and Cruise as Vincent easily his best and most engaging performance for me.

Could have been so much greater if he didn't get his pole stuck up Tim Burton's fartpipe. His career has kind of spiralled out of control and ended up on some kind of acid-trip, a bit like when you've been browsing YouTube for too long and you realise you've stumbled into some weird other dimension online because you were intrigued to find out what a Snake eating a Hippo looks like.

Depp could have and probably still could play any role, he's that good but he needs a great film to save his rep in my opinion.

Day Lewis will eventually be regarded as the best of all time if he keeps up his current streak.
It's a rare skill for an actor to play such a great part that you forget it is him.
He was immense in Lincoln too. Apparently many Americans were shocked when he spoke in an English Accent at the Oscars...
