Morning peeps, There's a great interview with David Haigh in the Daily Mail, he talks candidly about his love of Leeds Utd, meet uncle Ken for the first time, not making the same mistakes as Ridsdale and want to pack Elland Road to the rafters week in week out. One nice little snippet was Haigh's first meeting with Ken. Haigh revealed that rather than getting down to business, discussions with Ken actually began with a joke between the two men.âThe first thing he did was look me up and down and say, âAnd how old are you?â I replied, âThree times younger than youâ, and I think that cheeky answer broke the ice. The latest ex player to to added to the new Ambassadors Panel is Dominic Matteo, with more more expected soon. Dom joins Lorimer in their new role to represent Leeds Utd at community and commercial events, fans forums and various other arenas. thoughts? On the assumption McDermott will want to bring in his own players, which ones will he get rid of. One of the weakest area's on the pitch seems top be midfield. Who should stay and who should go? Green Austin Varney Pugh Brown Tonge Norris Thompson Hall Dawson There are a few who have potential, but on the whole, it scares me......
Morning all - In regards to who will be shown the door, it might be a case of just those out of contract, I can't see much of a queue forming for the likes of Varney and Pugh. Warnock really did screw us over with Becchio - Even with a year left on his contract now he would have to be worth more than Morrison, a player who will be on a good wage and a lengthy contract.
Morning elland, In an ideal world out of those you have listed I would get rid of Varney, Pugh, Brown, Tonge and Norris with loaning out Dawson and even perhaps Thompson again. I highly doubt we will get rid of that many and we know Brown is already staying on for another year so I would also keep Tonge meaning we are only getting rid of Varney, Pugh and Norris. Even then I'm struggling to think who would want them anyway, only realistically promoted teams and maybe League 1 clubs
Maybe some of those we would gladly show the door to now will perform batter under BMD with his style of play, formation and tactics. It will be an interesting few months ahead, let us hope GFH are more ambitious than Bates.
Morning all. I suppose if that list of midfielders all retired in the morning, not one of them would be missed. My worry is Leeds are so long out of the big time, we are no longer a big attraction to decent players. Sure, we can attract the mediocre or the journeymen trying to add a year or two to the end of their contracts. My question is, how do we sell the idea of joining Leeds to prospective signings. I'm sure, over the summer, we'll be linked with dozens but in all likelihood, probably only ten percent of them will even consider us. We need to start competing for signatures again i.e., McDermott picks his targets, Harvey recruits them, regardless of what other clubs are sniffing around.. For far too long, we've been recruiting cast offs that no one else wants. Morisson is the perfect example. Even the wall fans here told us how ****e he was so we swop him for a striker tht would have probably reached 30 goals this season. Then we get a selection of fans trying to justify the move as per usual. So for me, it's clear most of the squad needs to go but equally important, will be the class of player coming in. I'm looking forward to the first two because gfh's ambitions and ability will be laid bare after that for all to see
I am hopeful that the new manager will attract many players that would not have been attracted before.
I am hopeful(*) that the new owner's cash will attract many players that would not have been attracted before. (*) but not very
Morning all Lovely day down here. Hate being at work when the suns out Great news Dom Matteo is getting more involved. Speaks alot of sense and loves the club, and he's talked to me a few times on Facebook so we are practically best mates
That interview is well worth a read. Haigh comes across as a fairly decent bloke with strong business sense. He obviously recognises the need to improve attendances and reconnect with the fans, which is a big improvement on Bates. GFH are still unbelievably crap at PR thought. Keeping Bates as Life President sticks in the craw, as does allowing him to speak at the end of season awards. He should be told to **** off – which will win Haigh and others massive brownie points with the fans. Similarly, keeping Lorimer and Shaun Harvey at the club is ridiculous, especially when they deliver absolutely nothing (and in Harvey’s case, is awful at his job). And there’s still no sense of what the plan is for the future. Will McDermott have any money to spend on new players? Are GFH in it for the long-term or looking for a quick sale? Of the players to get rid of, let’s just release Pugh, Varney, Brown etc onto a racetrack and wait for them to be put down
Morning All, I think that it's interesting that you homed in on the midfielders, Elland. Think about it - the only area where players were unable to display their skills under Colin was the midfield. They spent their time looking to the sky to see where the hoofballs were whizzing to, then spent the rest of their time trying to get it back from the opposition. All we got to see was the grafting & digging. They were never given the chance to pass or express themselves. I'm not for a minute suggesting that they're all Maradonas, but how the hell do we fairly compare them with all the other midfielders people are suggesting we sign? Difficult one, but I have faith in BM, especially as he earned his crust as a scout in the past.
Morning all The ones that instantly jump out at me would be Pugh and Norris. I'd look to move Varney on, but I think he will be kept to be honest. (Leaving the match thread with the excellent one on the watford board this week, I'll start mine up properly next season, and it's given me an idea to try and engage away fans a bit more with them.... That might not go over too well )
Morning All Regarding Pugh I think we'll be able to get rid of him this summer. Like I said before don't care who we get rid of this summer as long a we get decent replacements. Matteo as club ambassador good for him it's great that GFH are putting ex players in to the 'public field'. Until I know what these Ambassadors are actually meant to do I probably won't pay much attention to them. Not read the interview yet but might give it a look on the website, I'm not going to buy a hard copy of the paper. At least Haigh is doing interviews, only wish it was with a decent Newspaper not the Daily Fail
He seems to be doing alright for the Wendies everytime i've seen them play or highlights. Hopefully there make him an offer
wont take you long to settle in mate and your be posting just as much Same happened to me a while back, but you soon fall back into old habits!
Just looked it up and to be fair it's not far out, he's actually 35 - thought he was a lot older than that!
