Haven't done one of these in quite awhile but thought I would try to get some footy debate going on a slow day. Oscar was a highly touted Brazilian coming in from International at a pretty high fee ( 20 million I believe). I think he has adopted decently to the prem over the season but maybe gets rotated a bit much in the shuffle with Mata, hazard, Moses, etc. Coutinho is a year younger than Oscar and a bit more travelled in Europe. He came into Liverpool with a pretty reasonable 8.5 price tag and has been a big difference in our attacking performances since his arrival. Taking the two, who would you have and why? You can use the international games as well to make an argument if you must but the premise is mainly on the prem. I think next year could be a better debate about it as both will have had time in the league and can they avoid the second season syndrome. Anyway, discuss ( hopefully).
Both look very good basically. Always hard to tell how effective any player will be over the course of a few seasons, injuries can take their toll, players get sussed out etc but both have undoubted talent. I haven't watched Oscar enough yet to know if he has any glaring weaknesses but my worry with Coutinho is that he's much stronger on his right than his left. That will get found out very quickly and so we'll see how he deals with things when every defender is pushing him onto his left.
Think both have good footskills but think Coutinho just about edges him there and the same with his vision. I thnk Oscar has a better eye for goal though ( just watching this season mind).
The Two of them are going to be class i think, Our Man has the edge at the min just because he was a steal at 8.5 mil
I don't know. the issue is coutinho is unproven. the only reason we got countinho is cos he didn't succeed at inter. we got him chear while oscar was in demand. If cheslea continue to rotate him he could be sold for 8.5mil too both look good, lets see both next year. I'm happy with coutinho thus far.
Trying not to use that card ( Gerrez hates it) but we did get a younger ( only a year) , more experiences in Europe player for about half the price. I see Coutinho and Oscar as Number 10's so that is what I am trying to go off of. Would like to see Oscar with a long ru in the squad as with Coutinho with both of them as the no.10 role.
Coutinho probably has the better platform to perform at the moment. Given more license on the ball than Oscar, who I believe is mostly shoved out on the right when he prefers a central role. Plus our situation has a lot less pressure than Chelsea's, who are juggling top 4 hopes with the EL. Next season may be a better barometer. I will say that Coutinho's ability to pick a through ball appears markedly better than Oscar's. But that may be down to they way each team is set up. Chelsea, for whatever reason, always seem to have less space in front of their midfield than we do. Stamfrod Bridge always looks cramped in that respect.
You would think with Torres, mata, Hazard to play with Oscar should be able to pick the passes out and that the runs are there.
Is that real number 10s or false ones?? At the moment Coutinho undoubtedly has less competition for a place especially since Gnashers ban. In the short term this will help him develop quicker and get used to the Prem (although obviously Oscar has a head start in that respect anyway). As time goes on though players need competition for their place so hopefully a lad like Suso can develop and keep Coutinho on his toes.
In terms of value for money, Coutinho wins hands down. However, I think both are two quality players with the potential of becoming world class. Both are young and technically gifted.
Only Torres of those you've named will make such runs, though. Mata is usually the guy making the pass, not getting on the end of it. Hazard is a good dribbler, but hardly great in terms of being in the right place. That's probably their problem. Mata, Hazard and Oscar, while brilliant individually, offer too much of the same type of thing to be particularly productive. If we had two Suarezes, they'd also work counter-productively.
This is true, could possibly be due to Oscar was in high demand and made a big move to Chelsea while Coutinho was that player a few years ago but injuries/change of manager/ whatever led him to slip off the radar a bit. I think it also depends on what the Brazil coach wants, someone who threads balls through or a midfielder that can pitch in with the goals. Think Coutinho can do that but over the season I think Oscar being able to strike it pretty well with both feet help him in that regard.
