SSN REPORTS HOILETT WANTS PREMIERSHIP STAY - IS HE HAVING A LAUGH? BEEN PREETY MUCH USELESS ALL SEASON. Queens Park Rangers forward Junior Hoilett is uncertain what the future holds, with there a desire on his part to remain in the Premier League. The 22-year-old was hot property last summer, and QPR were credited with pulling off quite a coup in taking him to Loftus Road once his contract at Blackburn Rovers expired. Hoilett has, however, struggled for games and consistency during his time in the capital and has now suffered relegation out of the top flight in successive seasons. There is expected to be a mass exodus of top talent at QPR once the transfer window opens this summer, and Hoilett is likely to be among those heading for the exits. He came close to linking up with West Bromwich Albion in January, as part of a deal intended to take Peter Odemwingie south, but he is reluctant to discuss the collapse of that agreement or an imminent move elsewhere while QPR still have fixtures to fulfil. "I know what it sounds like, but I don't want to talk about it or anything to do with it," Hoilett told the Fulham Chronicle. "Of course I want to stay in the top flight - every player does, but that's for the future after the last few games. "It's been a tough time, there's no doubt. But all I can do is learn from the situation and come back stronger. "Yeah, I would agree my form has dipped, but that's not entirely surprising given the circumstances - but you can't look back." .
"Hoilett is likely to be among those heading for the exits." I can only assume his next job is on the Loftus Road turnstiles then.
Why wait till the season ends, he can sod off now on unpaid leave, until someone in the PL offers a transfer. I had high hopes for him, barring a couple of reasonable performances, he's been useless for us. Get rid IMO.
When you compare him to Townsend you see how poor he's been. Both young talent and both couldn't be further apart in terms of quality this season.
I would take Hoillet all day long, he proved he can do it in this league along with other players you have at your club. They just have been badly managed and haven't all turned into bad players overnight.
There are some good players in that squad who have dreadfully underperformed and can do very well for a mid-table side when not part of this awful collective. Hoilett has done well before us and can do well again at a West Ham, Fulham etc.
I agree with that. Question is why is it an awful collective, and is Harry able to fix it? Most of us blame Hughes and want different players to go, but for this squad to become a good collective a big core of them have to stay and the Manager has got to get a real good team together. I'm not sure Harry can do it, he's had about 5 months now with little apparent progress.
It's an awful collective because Hughes' approach to buying players was awful and there was no clear plan other than to buy in anyone with experience and hope for the best. Let's go through the team: Goalkeepers: pretty good ability-wise but an awful approach from Hughes. Green is a mid-table Prem keeper but had one very poor game against Swansea and was bombed out. Cesar was brought in with no thought- a terrific shot-stopper but clearly has no desire to play for QPR and has a lot of faults which get exposed in England and don't so much for Brazil or in Italy. We needed Green plus a good number 2 to challenge him- not a number 1 plus an older number 1 who doesn't give a toss. Defence: awful, just awful. The part of the team that needed the most addressing and was given the least. It was a miracle that we got the performances out of Hill and Nelsen that we did at their age. Traore isn't a left-back as long as I have a hole in my arse. Fabio was a fair loan signing but why on Earth did we not do more to try and get Taiwo who was at least as good and loved playing for us? Onuoha is just about good enough at either RB or preferably CB but that's about it for anyone under 30. Beyond that we have Ferdinand (dire), Bosingwa (not arsed), a few kids who aren't ready and Luke Young, who was treated like dirt by Hughes, but more on that later in this mini-essay. Overall, clueless. Redknapp tried with Samba because we were desperate but by January the damage was done. Midfield: again, just get in whoever you can with some experience and everything will be fine. An astute lower league signing or scouts abroad? Don't be silly. There are Manchester United and Real Madrid reserves who are bound to be good so get them in instead. Diakite has been a big miss and I don't blame Hughes for what's happened to him as it seems it was beyond his control, but the others have been almost incredibly poor. Granero- all the technical ability of Iniesta and all the bravery and heart of the ****ing scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. How did Hughes possibly not know what sort of player he was investing £9m in, especially when you've got a very similar player in Faurlin already who loves the club at least and will put a foot in regularly. To play those two together was suicide- playing a flat four of Park, Granero, Faurlin and Wright-Phillips against West Ham I.e. a midfield made up of five nightclub bouncers is a sackable offence in itself. Hoilett has been dogshit, no more to say on that. Park is gone- clearly no scouting attempt there and clear to anyone that he was and is good enough only for a league like the MLS. Some people like Mbia because he's a top bloke, occasionally does good things and gives his shirt to a disabled child every game. That's all lovely but, again, why replace Barton with another complete headcase? Forwards: some bad luck in losing the excellent Johnson but there was always a good chance of that happening sooner or later. We started the season with three injury-prone over 30s- why? The squad needs at least four forwards for a start. Could he honestly have thought that we'd always have two available out of Zamora, Johnson and Cisse? Two crocks and another fruit loop does not get you 40 goals. We've seen what a difference Remy has made. We've seen what some scouting gets you in Michu, Benteke, Cisse, Kone etc. Was that sort of signing really beyond Hughes with the resources at his disposal? Last but by no means least, the absolutely disgraceful treatment of the players he didn't fancy. Why create ill-feeling for no reason with Bothroyd, Campbell, Young and the rest? Did he really expect that not to filter through to their mates in the squad? You don't treat people the way he did if you're manager of a branch of McDonald's with employees on £13k a year. What sort of brainwave suggests it's a good idea with seasoned pro footballers on £30k a week? I'm not saying Redknapp has been faultless. Samba has been well below par. Jenas wasn't worth loaning Faurlin out for IMO and there was no need to bring Bosingwa back when there are others who would fight for the cause but the performances have been 100 times better on average under him than in Hughes 12 games or whatever it was. We've been desperately unlucky in some key games whereas we were fortunate to be on 4 points when Redknapp got the job. This is an atrocious Premier League and a monkey could have got this club a respectable finish with the resources Hughes had. If he was a boss in the City, he'd be in court for his sheer incompetence. Apologies for the length of the post to Swords and others.
Haven't seen anyone not agree with this on Hughes, and I agree with most of your other comments, but I am not convinced Harry is the right man. We are still a pretty awfull collective after 5 months under him.He started well but having found a team/formation that stopped leaking goals I don't know why he didn't build on that foundation. He could have continued to play Adel as the false 9 in a more attacking formation when it came time for a few 3 pointers, but he played a half fit Zamora, and not even Betty (who loooked in better form in the Cup win at WBA) until very recently. One reason I doubt that Bosingwa is so half arsed as many say is because Harry has played him consistently since bringing him back - IMO he 's played well and is far better going forward than Onouha, but if he is such a negative influense Harry should know that, and he could of played an improved Onouha at RB instead. IMO playing Park at all was ludicrous when he had so many far better midfield alternatives on the bench or in the stand. It will be an interesting summer seeing what sort of squad we'll have for August..
