I have nothing to add to this, just fancied pissing everyone off by ruining this thread.

Have to agree with the article, the only quotes to have come out have been from the agent.
We have read in the press before the end of the season that offers were being tabled, and think the way the agent has worded it is meant to cause uproar.
"The board have indicated they will not be offering JB a new contract" bollocks the press have reported they have offered him a new contract and only the length of time was the stumbling block.

We can only wait to see what happens, but wouldn't trust what Mackay has said

I think the no 'new' contract line is him saying that they've been offered the same contract they were offered in January and agreed, in principle, to. Supposedly a two year contract, but he wants four.

Compromise on 3 years with an option to extend for another year if his performances are still up to standard.

    Deal done.

I hope you are right, however we all now that Mike Ashley/ Lambias do not give in to player demands at all.

Exactly, Willie McKay always abuses SkySports as a media pedestal and I've no doubt it works often enough to earn him a fair buck. Thing is though, I reckon he'll have met his match with Llambias and Ashley. As much as I dislike them, they've proven before that they won't be held to ransom by greedy agents and players with inflated egos or high opinions of themselves. For that I'm grateful.

This episode is by no means over, I only wish people would simmer down and look at the bigger picture before slating Ashley & Co because that's exactly the reaction the agents are trying to stir.

I wasn't surprised by the furore when it was 'revealed' by McKay.

There are two sides to every story and this is no different; albeit that McKay is trying to create a third side...

If it's over contract duration than some form of mediation will settle on meeting half way with a guaranteed review for an option of an extra year in the 2nd year of his extension.

Exactly, it's not like the window "slams" shut in a few days. JB probably wants a holiday first like most players and will sort it later.

What I cant understand is why wont they give him a longer deal, his style of play wont be affected by age (if anything will improve with experience) and even this season we have given Williamson a deal which runs til he is 32. A 5 year deal would take Barton to 33.

Great article, but its nothing that people haven't said on here! <ok> Maybe we should be journalists instead...o no that's right, you have to make up lies to be a journalist! Mind I'm sure we have some imaginative people here...infact I know we do from the Rape Thread alone.

I think the analysis is spot on.

As a negotiating strategy, however, it is extremely high risk - - to us at least. If MA decides he doesn't want ot be pushed about, it leaves JB very little room to maneouver with obviously backing down himself. I could see that a situation could arise where neither was prepared to blink first even though niether wanted Joes to leave.
