LUIS SUAREZ'S name was booed twice at the Professional Footballers’ Association awards night as the Liverpool FC striker missed out in the battle to be crowned Player of the Year. The Uruguayan, who is serving a 10-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, didn't attend the evening at London's Grosvenor Hotel. However, in his absence, a room full of fellow professionals and other guests made their feelings known about his conduct. Firstly, there were boos when Suarez was named in the team of the year, and secondly when his name was read out on the shortlist for Player of the Year, in which he finished second behind Tottenham's Gareth Bale. Suarez plundered 30 goals this season, including 23 in the Premier League, but he recently admitted prior to the incident with Ivanovic that his “niggly” style of play was unlikely to win him sufficient votes to land the top award. He said: “I understand defenders probably aren’t going to vote for me because I’ve got my particular style, which can be considered a bit niggly. “The way I am and the way I carry myself is all part of how I play — almost to divert defenders’ attention, to put them off. “If I played against a forward who winds me up every game, tries to get on my nerves and drive me mad . . . it’s difficult to vote for someone who does that. It’s hard to vote for a player who’s shouting at you all game and trying to wind you up.” Suarez, who was the only Liverpool player named in the team of the year, did poll more votes than third placed Robin Van Persie, whose 25 Premier League goals have helped Manchester United clinch the title. Bale did the double as he also walked away with the Young Player of the Year. The Welshman has netted 19 league goals and 24 in all competitions so far this season. Real Professional I hope he stays and bangs in 30 goals again next season as big **** you to the lot of them.
Boo Boo! Funny how a bunch of pro footballers can turn into a Punch n Judy audience all of a sudden It's so childish.. like biting someone
Gordon Taylor is a ****ing hypocrite. But when asked whether it was a mistake to allow Hunter to perform PFA chief executive Taylor replied: 'No, no, don’t be silly. Are you serious? Yep - says it all really. Bunch of hyprocrites. As for the 'professionals' who boo Suarez - sad acts who are probably jealous of Suarez's ability.
Looks like Gordon Taylor is completely out of touch and has not appreciated the seriousness of the incident: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ord-chairman-Clarke-Carlisle-embarrassed.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/apr/29/clarke-carlisle-reginald-hunter-pfa-awards http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...ut-wrong-event-at-the-wrong-time-8594878.html Apparently Hunter called Suarez a "******". Will Gordon Taylor be sacked if Suarez complains? Of course not, it's a cultural thing...
As for the boos for Suarez's name when he was announced as one of the players in the PFA Premier League team of the year, one should bear in mind that by that point drink had been taken. The room was full of Football League footballers unwinding after a long season, and a fair few corporate guests in a room of around 2,000 people. As one of the few who was stone cold sober, I could say with certainty that there was no maliciousness in the booing I heard. i'm glad the independent cleared that up then.... maybe suarez should have claimed to be drunk when he bit ivanovic cos it seems to make actions just fine then.
However, the PFA chief executive, Gordon Taylor, defended the choice of comedian. Asked if it was a mistake to hire Hunter, he said: "No, no, don't be silly. Are you serious? I think there were a few raised eyebrows over the comedian but that is the sort of thing you can't control. It was unfortunate. He is a professional comedian. It's a difficult subject in football and with him not being fully aware of how emotive it has been in football, that was probably a difficulty for him." I'm glad cos rio ferdinand was about to tweet choc ice again here.
I was there sitting beside rio and trying not to puke as i watched john terry laughing his head off at that funny guy talking about N...... then we all stood up like when phil taylor goes to scotland and booed the hell out of the biggest star's name... i didn't know it was suarez i swear.
These are the same footballers that didn't boo Ched Evans last year. Just to put some perspective on Suarez(and Balotelli, and even Rooney)'s "misdeeds".
Bit ironic that several people writing in comments to the Mail article dismiss it as being okay because it's just a 'cultural thing' that we should expect from Reggie, brought up in the Deep Soouth of the US. Hmmm, what was it they all said about Luis' defence that his use of the word 'negro' was cultural?
Evra is a PROVEN liar, that's why. Do you want to me to post the extract of the statement that he changed what he'd been called because he couldn't bear to repeat the word '******', and to then post his YouTube performance?
