Not sure if many have seen it yet, but if you can I urge you to. A 13 min interview with Harry and Tony side by side. Both said some home truths, and said things that we have all been saying for months. It seems lessons really have been learnt, and that they know what to put right this summer. Tony and Harry both said it is not necessarily the most skilful players that will be signed, but the right characters as well - which I think we can all agree it the right way to go about it. Tony admitted he was perhaps naive to think that some players wouldnt share his, and the fans passion for QPR and end up not trying hard enough, or caring enough. He spoke about Michael Dawson as one player we went after last summer, and he is the type of character we want. He pretty much admitted he wrongly trusted Hughes with some players (not in so many words but pretty much saying he trusted the previous management with certain players). Tony also said it was never about waving a blank chequebook around and just spending for the sake of it, but because we didnt have the quality that they felt would keep us in the PL. Ultimately this season has been a terrible one. All in all a thoroughly positive interview that has lifted my spirits for sure.
Its good news, its never been about the talent, its always been the lack of character. Players dont care about losing and thats exactly what I found out weeks ago by a long term serving player. you can carry 1 or 2 that dont care too much but youre in real trouble when its 7 or 8 in the 11 and the other 3 or 4 are really pissed off with them not caring and earning 3-4 times as much.
Thanks Judo - I just had the Facebook short version. I think TF, more than anyone, will have learnt so much this year and the fact that his commitment seems unwavering can only be a great thing for the future.
Yes it is. That player is angry and passionate about QPR, said it hurts when we lose and he doesnt like the other players not giving a **** about the club.
And is this player a psychologist? How does he know who really cares and don't cares? People act in very different ways to failure. The player who wants to shrug off defeat right after the game and get down the Night Club straight away, could be blazing inside at the loss 10 times more than the showy f*kk who wants to kick in the dressing room wall. Things aren't always as they appear on the outside.
It would be unfair because theres already not many people it could be as theyve forced out most of the old guard.
Fernandes admits to being naive. He says he now understands why Man Utd will not consider buying certain players however skillful. This is the approach that QPR must now adopt in order to leave a lasting legacy. Harry then says that we don't want to bring in players that think they're doing the club a favour. We want players with character and who want to come to the club to play football. Not just for money. Strong characters who can bring the others in the dressing room along with them.
Todays metro back page mentions tony fernandes attack on under performing players, gone are the days when players put in 100% and long gone are players from my first days at qpr like angell, ingham, Brian Bedford with his 180 goals from 284 starts, tony hazel furlong gallen not forgetting alan McDonald and present players like clint hill who may not be premier but put in 100%, mourinho was so right when he said some weeks ago footballers goes down hill when they gets to 22 years
I'm not sure who's in charge of such decisions, but I think that it would have been a nice touch for the club to put that interview up for free. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great news that Harry is staying and that Tony says that he remains committed to the cause. I just resent having to pay extra to hear them say it, especially after such a horror show of a season.
Well said mate, that is one interview all fans should be able to hear after the shambles we have witnessed.
It was a good interview. Lot of usual stuff said; good honest talking (especially from Tony). One thing that comes across is his drive in what he says (eg last season he looked forward to the break; right now, he wants to get on and start planning for the Championship). They both come across with the view of getting in the 'right people' - we shall see in the summer how they do. Plenty of feeling from them both. It's going to be a new challenge, but they seem up for it. It can't be perfect, as we can't afford to change everything - but I'm sure we will all be looking to see the culture change in the type of players, and squad, that we see develop over the summer.
Great interview, exactly what I wanted to hear. Tony looked fu7king mad. Really pissed off. I get the feeling he feels (rightly) he's been taken for a mug by agents/players etc. I think he'll learn from this season and last, big time. I'm kinda glad its all over too!
