This weekend is the critical one I feel. If we can just get a point and West Brom could beat Wigan I think we will be alright.

Just come on Newcastle - just get a draw on Saturday then take a deep breath, prepare yourselves and get another draw against QPR. The latter surely won't be that arsed about the game. Just stay up, get rid of Pards then plan and rebuild for next season.

You can look at it like that or you can think back to the last minute winners we got against stoke and fulham. We are where we are

Let me make sure I understand what some deludeds are saying on this thread tonight.

Because a team won 6-1 we have dropped one place in the league, ie 4th bottom, and now have the worst GD outside the bottom 3 and yet they are pleased/celebrating because that team are Sunderland. It beggars belief that some people can't see past their prejudiced outlook and understand what is good for Sunderland also applies to us.

I hope this result does not come back to haunt us.

    An early report from NUFC.com

A 6-1 win for Aston Villa over the mackems on Monday evening was enough to drop Newcastle down a place to seventeenth - our lowest Premier League position since Alan Pardew was appointed back in December 2010.

Far from climbing out of danger by recording a third successive win, the mackems are again entangled in the scramble to avoid finishing in the final relegation place.

Adding to their woes, Stephane Sessegnon received a straight red card for violent conduct that will see him banned for three games*. That means that the mackem mussolini will be without his two top scorers for the rest of the season, with Steven Fletcher out injured.

This! For one night only I was prepared to cheer on the Mackems!

Hey, maybe I am a jinx?

For the benefit of all fellow Toon fans, from now on I will support Wigan Athletic. <ok>

You just couldn't make it up could you. Not only did Villa take three points but closed the goal difference swell.
Hats off to them as they came out fighting and worked hard as a team who looked like they had belief in each other.
Pity we could not emulate their fighting spirit. Tonight's result was a complete and utter disaster for us and now l am genuinely very worried, especially on the last two games showing that we don't have what it takes to define our own destiny.
We are in deep trouble and l really cannot see that there is anything to be laughing about. If we go down this season, all the flair players we seem so happy with when things are boing well will desert us and what we will be left with will not be enough to bounce us straight back up like last time.
If laughing at the Mackems plight tonight is compensation for that scenario, then fair enough, laugh away.
