I thought Bale deserved it (beyond Suarez obviously). Just glad that he got the young version too since he was in both lists, makes it a bit of a joke when the supposed best player in the league isn't the best youngster
imo best young player should be 21 or under not 24, that aint young in terms of being a pro footballer but yeah Bale worthy winner I guess but wouldn't have argued with Suarez winning it. Still, it shows the classlessness of people with the booing of Suarez, as if the 10 game ban is not enough and even in the article about POTY and Bale, the Beeb still bang on about Suarez and his ban the Salford ****s just can't stop themselves
just to answer the OP. 1. its a vote so if everyone hates the others then its fair. bale got it and frankly i don't mind. 2. I then agree that its a joke that someone who's played that much and is in the running for the top award gets yuong player. that is a joke and the age needs to be dropped post haste.
Just to point out that these votes were cast before the biting incident. The shortlist is just the six players that got the most votes, the winner as already been decided by the time we see who the six are
Think I pointed this out before, but all voting takes place in March so the biting and ban won't have been a consideration at all. Tho' it does mean voting took place when Bale was on a hot streak and had scored something like ten or eleven goals in eight matches and was literally carrying Spurs to almost every win. Which arguably highlights the nonsense of voting for the award 3/4 of the way through the season, particularly given how his form has dropped off recently. Completely agree. 23 made sense back in the 80s and 90s when players often went on loan or were eased into the side, but with modern sports medicine young players can generally come in and do well at a very young age so I think there needs to be a bit more separation in the ages.
and now because they are not gonna be kicked to pieces as they would have been in the 80s. Mind you, Rooney could have gone straight in at 17 in the 80s
I think maybe 21 is too young but i think there's a get out of you were 23 two years ago thats allowing bale this one. its silly.
Suarez was never going to win it because of his discipline issues. RVP went about 10 games without a goal so for me that rules him out. So for me it was Bale first and Mata second. Although I am not sure it is correct to suggest Bale sets a good example considering how many times he has been booked for diving. In saying that I am of the belief it is not Bales job and Suarez job to set a good example for kids. Thats the job of the parents.
I think the rule is if you're 23 or younger at the start of the season (Milner was 24 when he won it in 2010). Which means that if Bale were one month younger he would still be eligible to win it next season
I'm not annoyed that Bale won it, he's played well, but he shouldn't have won both. It's stupid that that can happen. Bale's an established player, not a youngster who's made a good impact.
