I guess one could also say that Walcott is only our top scorer by virtue of the fact that he has scored against Reading, West Ham and Newcastle amongst others. Hardly teams to strike fear into opponents. Lies, damned lies and statistics...
That doesn't make any sense!
It doesn't correlate with what you said directly, I was just making the point, that being the top scorer in a team doesn't necessarily make you the most valuable player sometimes if the goals all come against mediocre opposition... A good idea would be to see how many points Walcott's goals have actually got us as opposed to goals scored, as stats can be misleading :)

BBC article proves your point...that we have shared the goals this season. A natural corollary of this fact is that our strikers have not been as decisive as other people's in terms of points gained .... incidentally this is why we are second in the bbc poll... ie a team that shares the goals evenly amongst the squad will still have a high points tally if you took away the goals of its top scorer.. .rudimentary arithmetic.

As has already been said this is not the same thing as saying where teams would've finished if so and so wasn't playing or scoring....as someone else would more than likely get at the end of the same chances.

The only real value of this exercise is that it shows we've coped well to compensate for RVP absence.... ie kept our place as a team still fighting for fourth...ie not progressed in 8 years

don't make things up, if you're going to say walcott doesn't score enough against the big teams fine, but he's scored versus 5 of the top 7 teams in league play: tottenham, everton, chelsea, liverpool & man united as a winger.

Articles like this one are pointless because it is taking for granted that the final touch is the only effect on net points. the assist is just as important in many cases aside from goal poaching, scrambles, and individual efforts. they could just as easily say, that one squad would be worse off without their leading assist player setting up goals.

And out of those 5 games we have managed 3 points as a result of his goals. That's 3 out of a possible 15.
